McCarthy Now Has ‘Concerns’ About Cheney In Wake Of Trump Impeachment Vote | Talking Points Memo

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he now has “concerns” about Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) after she voted to impeach former President Trump earlier this month.

McCarthy is one of the most craven politicians out there…he’ll basically say anything to stay in power. This retreat from Cheney is probably due to his conservative supporters calling his office and demanding that she be tossed overboard. McCarthy inching towards going along with it is making it more clear that the Trump wing of the Republican party is ascendant…at least some Republicans were hoping it would go away when he left in disgrace after the insurrection, but they are going to be stuck with their millstone for a while still.

It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the impeachment trial…if there are more bad stories about Trump and more right wing demands for allegiance to him, will Senate Republicans move to convict and bar from office, or clear him and hold tight? It’s going to come down to what they think is best for them to hold power in 2023 and not what is best for the nation…a clear indictment of the lack of moral character for the party.

“She can have a difference of opinion, but the one thing if we’re going to lead within the conference, we should work together on that as a whole conference because we’re representative of that conference,” McCarthy said. “I do think she has a lot of questions she has to answer to the conference.”

The top House Republican suggested that the growing number of Republicans who have called on Cheney to step down should be allowed a forum to raise questions, in a setting that would simultaneously allow Cheney to explain her actions.

Let’s just have that discussion,” the California lawmaker said.

I’ll bet the motherfucker is “concerned.” This is the same scumbag who claimed yesterday, in some asinine forum, that “we all share” responsibility for Jan 6.

Not us, Kev-boy… YOU, motherfucker.

Ladies and gentlemen: behold Kevin McCarthy, GOP House “leader”. He spread lies for months that Trump won. On the same day an insurrectionist mob seized and sacked the U.S. Capitol, he later supported their illegitimate goal to overthrow the election and install Trump as dictator.

Kevin McCarthy is guilty of sedition and has no regrets. In a just world he’d be arrested and tried as the traitor he is.

Great analysis. I would add just one thing, and please pardon the technical lingo: Fuck ‘em both, especially McCarthy.

Latter

Though McConnell is obviously mad at him, it’s clear who runs that party now (which is odd, because that means the current Republican Party supports sedition and secession).

It’s all about priorities: if you don’t put party before country, there’s no room for you in that party.

“Let’s just have that discussion,” the California lawmaker said.

“But not in public,” he quickly added.

I believe the analogy he favors is “the family,” as in keeping it ‘in the family.’
Like when the question of who pays Trump and Rohrabacher came up at a party conference.
