I have not seen the demonstrated fight that we’re looking for,” Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, said
also pushing for promises around impeachment proceedings and investigations into the Biden administration and family [none of whom are serving in the administration]
I suppose we should be ambivalent. McCarthy was weak leader in his previous stint at the job and that’s a plus for the sanity caucus. However Jordan would turn the GOPer effort into a shit show which would be wonderful. So let it be.
Investigations that go nowhere. Failed attempts at impeachment. And hopefully a debt ceiling fiasco.
Its possible it could even swing back to Dem “control” given how close thin the majorities would be/deaths/party switches. Who would even want to be speaker on either side? I say, let Qevin and his MAGAts keep their thin majority and let them release the Kraken! lol
This morning I heard from my company’s political consultants that the Republicans will end up with plus 2, a razor thin number. What happens if a three or so Republicans have to be replaced during the next couple of years. Can the speakership change?
I just don’t get this whole narrative that the crazy caucus has all the power, and that they will run rough shod over McCarthy, and dictate the entire agenda.
Assuming the 219 prediction is correct (or close), McCarthy has the Sinema/Manchin problem. Any 2 moderate Republicans can tank the entire agenda of the crazies by simply saying they will vote against any measure.
To be completely honest, I don’t see how they elect a speaker of the house. The newly elected Reps in the new NY districts do not want their first votes to be Impeach Biden, because they know they will lose their reelection bids in 2024. I just don’t see the crazy caucus getting much of what they want, particularly after the midterms.
I’m actually looking forward to impeachments. If they impeach him, for example, on border control Biden can then present the border-management improvements he’s made to a nationwide audience
You know, the voters have indicated a lack of stomach for radical performative politics. I suspect the crazy caucus is going to hurt itself a lot if they try impeaching Biden for the fun of it. There won’t be any profit for them. I am hoping the Freedumb bunch runs wild. Every crazy thing they do is going to harm Republicans generally.
Any member can move to remove the speaker. Whether anyone would do so is a different question. There’s not necessarily a ton of value in seeking to take over the gavel with a 1-vote majority.
Many of the pro-Trump Republicans have been demanding that McCarthy agree to a number of proposed rule changes for their votes, one of which is a push to make it easier for lawmakers to call for floor votes on ousting a sitting speaker — the Freedom Caucus used this against Boehner in 2015.
