McCarthy GOP Ally Dares Matt Gaetz Et Al. To Actually Oust The Speaker

There some movement among Democrats in response to Biden’s dismal poll numbers. There is a possible primary challenge being considered by a Minnesota Representative.

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) said he has not yet ruled out a primary challenge to President Biden for 2024.

“I am thinking about it. I haven’t ruled it out,” Phillips told host Steve Schmidt on “The Warning” podcast, adding that it is a “steep slope.”

“I think there are people who are more proximate, better prepared to campaign with national organizations, national name recognition, which I do not possess,” he continued.

Phillips, a three-term congressman, has been toying with a potential 2024 bid against Biden for months and has repeatedly called for a competitive primary, urging other Democrats to jump into the race. He said on the podcast that he is “concerned that there is no alternative.”

How many votes will it take to elect a speaker of the house, who will it be, they’ve already shot themselves in the foot.

Chins only nuts could love, chin nuts…

Go ahead and vote out Kev. What’s it matter anyway? The damn goobers just wanna fuck stuff up. They don’t wanna do anything useful. Just perform for the media. If it weren’t so damn serious it’d just be humorous.

And then Julius Caesar said goadingly, in his best PeeWee Herman voice:

“Go ahead, stab me- show me how smart you are.”

I suppose that getting 10 to 15 democrats to work with non extremist GOPers is off the table Kev? Or are republicans all nuts? You know… an end run around the Gaetz crowd.
Too hard I guess

His whole speakership has been singularly focus on not becoming a repeat of Boehner and Ryan…

However that demise seems nearly inevitable.

May the Petards be ever in you favor…

I’ve posted before that it seems really unlikely to me that anyone else could get the votes for speaker if they oust McCarthy, so he would probably eventually get elected again, but …

Yeah, tell me another one, Garret. I’m not sure what Profile In Courage you’re looking at, but it ain’t Qevin.

Sadly yes. The end of the fiscal year is Saturday. Government agencies have to spend down their budgets or return unspent money.

In past shutdowns, Congress has usually protected the military or uniformed military members. If you are a civilian, you are either essential, which means you work through the shutdown without pay, or you get furloughed, which means your at home without pay. If you’re a uniformed member, you work through without pay. Its not just the pay, its housing allowances as well. If you get a housing allowance, it pays the difference between your pay and average housing costs in your region.

My biggest problem is none of these folks deserve this. They aren’t the reason Republicans are shutting down govt. This bunch of yahoos is dead set on hurting the country to get what they want- stopping Trump’s prosecutions and a host of other stuff they can’t get through a straight up and down vote.

When Matt Gaetz almost sounds reasonable- there’s a problem. He’s right that Republicans haven’t taken up spending bills, but he’s only saying that to jab at McCarthy for not letting the Freedum Caucus yank his chain. I hate McCarthy, and he brought all of this on himself. It will be interesting to see how many votes it takes for him to get his job back…

I hate to EVER agree with these guys because THEN they think I’m a Republican but…pull the plug. Gaetz is a liar and a performance artist. Just call him out.

I’m completely tired of what amounts to a farting contest in church between these dozen MAGA Rump-publicans.

The problem is so-called moderate Republicans who are too chicken shit to stand up and say, GTFO you pigs!

Ten of them should vote with Democrats to pass the Senate bill, shitcan the shutdown, and then decide how to lie to their constituents. Should they claim credit for single handed lay saving the economy, or cover up the one time they did the right thing?

They won’t do that without Trump’s go ahead, and even with his blessing, Trump will throw them under the bus in short order, so doubt they’ll do anything brave. I love the idea, but think it is a long shot.

ABSOLUTELY!!! This is the problem with the entire Republican Party. They sit back and let these terrorists run they party, and publicly do nothing, but privately complain while benefitting from the cover they provide.

That would prevent a lot of pain, but they are 1) too cowardly to deal with a Trump tantrum because they don’t command the media’s attention the way he does and 2) too cowardly to tell their constituents how bad a shutdown can be for them- this is the Keep-Govt-hands-off-of-my-Medicare Crowd we’re talking about.

Absolutely. Tell their constituents the truth- Trump would love to see the economy crash so he can get re-elected and stop prosecutions against him, and there are Republican members of Congress willing to jerk the steering wheel to make it happen.
