Manchin Threatens To Derail Entire Democratic Agenda With Spending Squeamishness

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has decided that spending $3.5 trillion on a reconciliation package slated to contain much of President Joe Biden’s agenda is too much, threatening to derail the Democratic agenda possibly for years.

Manchin should sacrifice his Senate seat for the good of the country, and back filibuster abolition and voting rights legislation, abortion protection, and court reform, in addition to supporting a progressive budget. He’s clearly calculated that he will lose if he does that but it really would be in the interest of the country.

And his daughter is an Epi Pen profiteer, obscenely jacking up the price and thereby raking in nineteen million last year. Who is paying this man?

Well there is going to be a ton of savings now that we are out of Afghanistan.

He’s a republican so “Good for the country” is a non starter

“I, for one, won’t support a $3.5 trillion bill, or anywhere near that level of additional spending, without greater clarity about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects inflation and debt have on existing government programs,”

Oh, debt: so, Manchin’s picking up the pretext the reactionaries spent us into for blocking Democratic and social issues legislation.
ETA: How long until he says SSI and Mecaid/care are just too expensive?

If Manchin wants to pause the Infrastructure bill to expand the court and fix voting rights, I’d agree. Those are more important.

If we pause to fill every open federal judgeship, ok…

Otherwise, Chuck should strip his committee assignments.

If Republicans are running the show anyway…

Couldn’t tell you for sure; but, I get the impression his senate salary is kinda like a gratuity to him.

Joe Manchin gives Dems their 51st vote. He’s a wealthy guy from a wealthy state and from a wealthy family that is intertwined with Shelly Moore Caputo’s and whose daughter got rich from the company that jacked the price in Epi pens, so no surprises here. The people who want the stimulus package have not demonstrated that voters will elect people who want it so there is no pressure on those who are fighting the stimulus and the tax hikes on capital gains, crypto, estates, etc. to change their minds. Pass the infrastructure bill so at least with all the bad news you get something done.

Goodness gracious me! All that trouble and he’s not even a Justice Dem!

I guess both the House Dems and Manchin/Sinema are looking to give both chambers to the Republicans. Both groups seem hell bent on making sure Biden’s domestic agenda fails. Spoiled entitled brats the lot of them. Manchin is an attention whore and has been ignored during the Afghanistan coverage. House Dems are young and foolish.

C’mon, Manchin’s probably working on the pending West Virginia abortion vigilante law.

Stop all business on Senate. Fill all existing judicial openings. No recess until done.

Then put Joe out of all commitees. Threatening same for Sinema.

Anything else is still having McConnell call the shots.

So manch bolts, what’s the difference at that point?
