Manchin Outlines Red Lines For Child Tax Credit

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has reportedly outlined his position on the child tax credit to the White House amid Democrats’ ongoing negotiations for the Build Back Better reconciliation package, according to Axios.

Income cap for the child credit? Of course. He’s being paid to help the GQP and they can’t afford for middle-class white families in suburbia to have something to thank the Dems for. That’s fucking End Game.

$250 per child? Wow, so parents may get a whole $750 and not be working four jobs and desperately need it? As always, he counts on his constituents’ ignorance of this. I cannot read any more articles with this man’s name in the title.

The income cap, of course with no consideration for cost of living, is a way to squeeze a larger share of the money for West Virginia. This is his way of sticking it to the coasts.

Biden should play along and make a deal, then cancel student debt.

How about a counter offer with:
Fuck Joe Manchin with a cactus and a flaming piece of coal.

So now he puts so many poision pills in it that the dems have to vote against their own legislation. And if this dickhead doesn’t fuck it beyond recognition - Sinema gets another final swing to drive the nail into the coffin.

I am so totally stoked for Manchin to take that rubber mask off to reveal what is underneath.

The whole “work requirement” thing is so infuriating. It is one hundred percent the Reaganesque story about how the lazy undeserving (tweeeeet) poor are getting rich off welfare, mooching on the backs of the honest workin’ folk.

no one ever talks about the difference between high and low expense living situations either… living in NYC with kids on, say, $150k a year while dealing with student loans, $2500 a month rent, high cost of food and other goods vs living in low cost places on $150k, say, west virginia… my guess is you can live pretty high on the hog for one fiddy in WV…

Good. Manchin’s on the exact right path here, and good to see he’s focused on getting help where it’s needed, while avoiding giveaways to people that are already substantially better off than their neighbors and don’t need that assistance.

Outside of the Hive, this sort of restriction will prove quite popular.

So you think that when the people who are currently getting checks stop getting checks, they will be happy about it?

60K in West Virginia ain’t the same 60K in California Joe.

Income cap is fine, but he can accept an increase to 75k with a gradual phase up to 100k (similar to what he accepted in the ARP negotiations). Work requirements are bs and he knows it. If he wants to put a stamp on his ‘we’re not an entitlement society. This is not an entitlement society bill!’, he can do that performative s**t somewhere else.

Indeed…which is another aspect of it. People making more than 60K in WV…well, are there any? It’s straight up jealousy. He doesn’t want the non-third-world states getting more than his state is getting.

Manchin Wants Work Requirements

so, how many hours per day does Manchin want these children to work?

… assume that they will be paid a “child’s portion” wage?

Over half of households in America do not have children, either because they’re grown or there weren’t any to begin with.

Manchin doesn’t have to look far for a large constituency of people who are already not receiving checks to find support for not giving checks to their neighbors who make more money than they do while they’re not getting a dime.

Quietly notes that Jayapal and Co. haven’t proposed any regional adjustments to any benefits proposals either…

Let’s cut to the chase - after all our contortions, he’s still gonna say ‘No’, isn’t he?

Manchin is well aware that 60K in WV gets a lot more than 60K in NY or CA, at least around large cities. But that’s who Manchin likes to stick it to, even as those area’s wealth and productivity pays for the welfare going to WV.

I think it’s time for the rest of us to make some noise. We need to BOYCOTT WV and let Manchin know that his positions are going to directly hurt his constituents because Manchin is setting out to hurt us. It may not be fair but as far as I can tell, it’s the only leverage we have on Manchin, even if it pushes him to join the Republicans he seems to prefer and flips the Senate. If he were to do that, then at least the Republicans wouldn’t be able to claim that they control the government and their obstruction would be the new story.

Tell me again . . . .this guy Manchin is a Democrat?

Who’d a’ thunk it?

I’m pretty sure I already was…just by accident I suppose haha. WTF does WV have to offer most of us other than headaches, pollution and the promise of wasted taxes? High-end homecooked meth?
