That may be the only upside for all this sausage-making. It’s really demoralizing to watch Dems negotiate with themselves and to see the press frame it as “Dems in disarray” rather than “Republicans won’t even come to the table.” Watching a long list of wonderful things get pared down makes me sad.

The real problem with Paid Family Leave is that not enough Americans support it. Heaven forfend a supposed freeloader get a spare dime they might not deserve.
I’d encourage GOP voters in Virginia to write him in for Gov.

Fucking good. Gillibrand is going after Manchin with persistence, not combativeness. One of my Deans during my career had this characteristic.
And usually came out on Top.
Whatever we do and however we rail down on Manchinema, we keep them as Dems right now…

Exactly. “I don’t want paid family leave if that other (insert POC, immigrant, LBGTQ etc) person over there can get it!” Even with means testing, doesn’t matter. The wrong people will get the benefit.
This is why we can’t have nice things like singlepayer health care. God Forbid someone else should get it too.

In all honesty, though, my little rant about it in the comments isn’t going to do a damned bit of good. I’m 99.9999% sure none of the managing editors who actually have the wherewithal to set style standards bother with the comments.
So I emailed talk@talkingpointsmemo.com about it. I encourage anyone else who’s tired of a ‘friendly’ site contributing to the ‘let’s kill Biden’s poll numbers with false narratives’, however unintentionally, to do likewise. Maybe if enough of us bitch in the one place Josh et al actually read, they’ll notice.
