That’s how most people in education talk, though. Even expressing the mildest possible disapproval is a difficult thing for them because they have a horror of appearing “judgmental.” If they’d killed her he probably would have said he was disappointed with the choices they had made.

Can’t protect his kid from a virus he doesn’t understand, let alone can’t see, so he has to go and threaten the principal to get his “manly” on.

What’s with these guys? They so badass they need back-up to confront teachers, principals and school board members.

My own public school district superintendent recently resigned because people were showing up at his house, threatening violence against his wife and children.

This is totally unacceptable, but on the increase just about everywhere in America – yet state and local law enforcement aren’t taking this seriously at all, providing only a minimal, token presence at increasingly unhinged school board meetings.

Once upon a time, the President sent in the National Guard to prevent violence from rightwing lunatics in places like Little Rock High School. I hate to say it, but maybe we need to dust off that strategy again, before somebody gets killed.

Because they’re going to.

Thats all the National Guard would be doing these days.

Honestly, outside of patrolling the devastated areas from Ida, what could be more important for them to be doing?

Yeah I saw that in all places, Elijah, Georgia.

Sad but true, and in some cases, no protection at all. The Right can almost terrorize public officials at will. Let a bunch of Black and/or Brown people raise their voices at a meeting too loud…

Trespass? That’s it?!

My principal used to call me “spitfire.” He wouldn’t have put up with this bullcrap either.

These people need to prepare for this bullying, because it’s going to spread.

Forewarned is forearmed.

BTW, these superintendents are responsible for the safety of staff and students. What’s the best way to protect everyone here?

I mentioned on another thread that I worked for the Vail School District for 23 years, and taught in a middle school about 1/2 mile away. I passed this school daily on my cycling commute to work. I retired a year early in part because I didn’t feel that the district would provide safe conditions for teaching during Covid.

BTW, the coffee shop owner who did the instagram video mentions at the end that he does not even have kids in the district schools.

The district has had strong community support, but Covid and masking have been very divisive. Unlike some of the other area districts, they decided not to buck the governor and legislature’s anti-mask law and did not put a mask mandate in place. I still follow the weekly reports and they have had quite a few cases of Covid among students and staff compare to the percentage of students and staff infected in the neighboring district with a mask mandate. Apparently recent school board meetings have been just blowing up over this.

They say they wanted to make a “citizen’s arrest,” so my guess is they were planning to take her to the local sheriff’s office and display her like the cat who catches a mouse and drops it on the doorstep, waiting for praise. Meanwhile, if the sheriff had even the slightest sense, he’d be mumbling, “You did what now? Um, well, er, well…why did I decide to get out of bed today?”

A child died of Covid earlier this week at Seattle Children’s Hospital. They don’t care about children. I would not be surprised if sometime in the next week or so that one of these idiots tries to force their way into a school building.

Not sure what they imagine citizen’s arrest actually is. Here is the appropriate Arizona statute:
13-3884. Arrest by private person

A private person may make an arrest:

  1. When the person to be arrested has in his presence committed a misdemeanor amounting to a breach of the peace, or a felony.

  2. When a felony has been in fact committed and he has reasonable ground to believe that the person to be arrested has committed it.

Thanks to the fiasco in Florida and the lawsuit started on behalf of students with disabilities, the feds are involved and investigating 5 states and alerting others. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has been alerting school districts here in the state that not requiring masks could be discriminatory. “Certain students that are immunocompromised or that have other disabilities may be particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.”

DPI also informed districts the federal Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights announced Monday investigations into five states that had implemented statewide prohibitions on universal indoor masking policies: Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Utah. The investigation will determine whether the prohibitions discriminate against students with disabilities that make them more susceptible to severe illness from COVID-19.

While investigations are not currently open in Florida, Texas, Arkansas or Arizona since universal mask prohibitions are not being enforced due to court orders, OCR “will continue to closely monitor” those states and is “prepared to take action.”
