Maine GOP Gov Nominee Tests Whether Trump's Noncitizen Voting Delusions Are a Winning Strategy

Strange Bedfellows It’s a strange move for a Republican candidate running in a race that Cook Political Report has rated a “solid D.” Ever since he won the Republican nomination in Maine’s gubernatorial race, candidate Bobby Charles has attempted to walk a fine line between courting President Trump’s fans in the state and not running…

Wildly Unpopular Trump Does Everything He Can to Make Midterms About Himself for Some Reason

Of course he is. Criminal, Egotist, unthinking Narcissus, sexual predator. And a host of other issues that he couldn’t turn off or control even if he wanted to. He is not human. He is a vessel in human form, holding all the ills and evils of the human condition in one place. And all he can do is act on them.

Trump and Vice President JD Vance are both set to headline respective nights, with Vance to speak on Wednesday night and Trump on Thursday.

If I read this correctly last night, the openers for the NFL season are on those two nights.

Seahawks/Patriots

49ers/Rams

Brilliant scheduling on the Republicans’ part.

Perhaps this is intentional so less people watch Trump lie and rant and rave and also avoid the personally repugnant J.D. Douchebag™️.

I just noticed flags are at half-staff today in honor of Dolly Parton. Finally, the flag is used to honor someone who deserves it.

I read there are folks who want to make 9/25 Dolly Parton Day. Fine by me.

This is Trump’s last hurrah, his last big rally since there are no signs he’s trying to run again. It’s going to be lit. Get ready for major whining about the networks other than Fox News wanting to carry it live.

ETA: There will of course be a RNC Convention for '28, but he’ll either be dead by then or just phone it in, because he won’t be the center of attention.

That over saturation is something. More orange than the cheeto. Rivals my deceased brother after being set up for his viewing.

I don’t know Trump. I’m just a fascist who pals around with other fascists to threaten elections and intimidate my future captive population constituents. Definitely won’t scream “rigged!” when I get beaten like a drum.

TPM has been doing that red overlay color on the “Where Things Stand” article image for a while now. Maybe an attempt at site-branding to match the red color of the TPM logo? Just my opinion but it doesn’t work, it looks weird.

The reason is that this is what he always does every time all the time.

For a pathological narcissist it is his only play, and he has never shown another one.

Very. When it first showed up, I spent too much time fiddling with my monitor and settings to finally realize, it was the photo.

Plus it’s fodder for tomorrow’s Faux Newz - they can clip the “hater” parts together and bet a bigger audience. Or rather, their “usual” audience.

They want the damn participation trophy.
They’re the actual victims.
They had an idea, dammit.
That was the deal…!!!..!

The Petoskey HS “Dueling Banjos” that came next was also great. Dolly would have loved it! (I think the high school is in Michigan.) I didn’t allow myself to keep following the videos. I might have ended up staying up all night.

I lied. I’ve now watched, I dunno, maybe 10 or 15 clips, mostly military bands. A few observations. The American bands come across as better than the British, which is surprising. Maybe it’s just that British sound production is terrible (cf. the BBC and British-made movies, except Kubrik’s). There are so many military bands! I should have guessed as much. When I was in college, there were two violinists who were clearly better violinists than I was. One transferred to Julliard, and the other joined the Army in anticipation of being drafted. His service was playing in an Army orchestra.

OMG- THIS!

Not because she was some kind of saint, but because she made it okay to be “nice” and not okay to tell racist jokes.

(WARNING! INCOMING RANT! )

I just related to Ms Rowlf the story about how one of mum’s cousins (an Aussie) had married a Yank who’d come down from Vietnam to Oz for R&R about 1967 or 1968. After they’d hitched, they came through California on their way back to wherever he came from in the South, so we’d (him, her and us kids) had all gone out into the field at the school next door to share stories.

Now, I was in about fifth grade, so not very “worldly”, but mum had by then already taken us to protest marches against racism, so I knew enough to react with a twitch when the guy started sharing “cool n**ger jokes”;

So as a fifth grader, I didn’t say anything, but I can say that it definitely cemented in me a resistance to this sort of shit.

And so tonight, Ms Rowlf related that one of our friends, who’d just spent a few days up in Northern Quebec, was telling a neighbor about the wonderful artwork she’d seen by a Haitian (as an FYI, French-speaking) artist. After a short shift to other topics, the neighbor gave a short hateful spiel against “black people”! Friend didn’t know how to react, so didn’t say anything, so was feeling guilty.

Ms Rowlf and friend were circumspect, but I was on the other side of the fence. Having put up with this shit in my own country for far too long, I now definitely speak up when I hear this shit - time to make it uncomfortable to say this stuff, like we did in the late '60s and '70s, so folks like that Yank, or that asshole at my friend’s place, all start feeling guilty again…

Al Franken eventually went down for taking on conservative “lying liars”. America went on to elect a bullshitter twice, only to have declining liar-in-chief take up with another prevaricator. Birds of a feather.

The miracle cancer cure thanks to Great Father Cyrus never passed the smell test, but the evolution of the tale has not be followed extensively due to medical confidentiality rules. Bit now Natalie’s “water for injection” story comes out. Water for Injection (WFI) safety rules have come out of high-profile scandals like the Nurse Assist needle flushing tragedy and the PharmaTech thing (NSFW, yug). You can’t just boil water as the dead cellular materials left behind is still problematic. These are called pyrogens because they cause a fever. More recent examples include DYI peptide injection kits. In any case, Natalie seems to get her WFI story a bit confused, only to have it come back later as a cancer story. Some have accused Natalie of making it all up, Munchausen syndrome (factitious disorder imposed on self). There plausibly was some physical illness involved, but we’re unlikely to get the full story. Moreover, while she would have likely shared something like this with her parents. It seems to be CV enhancer that first helped her secure her job at OAN and then later in her onboarding with the Trump campaign in 2023.

Troops allege Hegseth and Trump pushing them to violate laws as discharge requests surge

MS NOW is reporting that “nearly six months into the United States’ war with Iran — and a year into the Pentagon’s decision to launch deadly strikes to kill alleged drug traffickers — the number of service members seeking a formal discharge from the military as conscientious objectors has skyrocketed, according to two groups that help them file their applications.” Jacob Soboroff – in for Nicolle Wallace – is joined by Priya Sridhar, who authored this story, Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, and Paul Rieckhoff for analysis on Deadline White House.

Trump’s doubling down on trade wars and tariffs, as well as his reversion to old stunts like renaming things, suggests all is not right with the man. Notably, Mao’s doctors withheld medical information from the leader over worries about his capricious reactions to bad news. Mao had a slew of health issues near the end, but amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Lou Gehrig’s disease, was perhaps the scariest. Mao’s doctors withheld the diagnosis and watched as Mao neurodegenerated before the country. I have a question: Could Trump’s doctors be compelled to reveal that they have been fully candid and honest with the president (reveal that they have been honest in revealing relevant medical data to the patient, not the diagnosis itself) or can doctors withhold information from the patient (physician’s discretion in duty to be candid with patients) particularly one in a high office that affects the lives of 8 or so billion people, without telling anybody?
