To focus on the pettiest possible thing, I despair that professional writers are sufficiently ignorant to use “revert back”. It’s just “revert”, stupid; the word literally means “to go back to”.
This is just the best possible news. A moral pope, an American, and a made in heaven schism for the American Right.
American Catholics will be forced to remember the welcome they got then and since.
Sweet Jesus.
Just like they could never consider Obama as part of God’s plan, so too they can’t take a second look at their own speech and actions and see if they are in alignment with Christian doctrine.
Turns out Jesus ain’t an albino Palestinian that wants them to be rich.
I’m glad they’re mad about the new pope, but from my perspective one forced birther versus another is like choosing your method of execution.
I am baffled by the right attacking the new Pope because he is pro-open borders. Why would a Pope, who is Pope for all of the world, preach closed borders? Why would he be MAGA? The funny thing is, this Pope is probably a reaction to Trump and his minions. They made it more likely a Pope like this one would be chosen to respond to their injustices.
Pirro is dirty. She’ll fit right in.
Leo XIV will be a mixed bag, but mostly good I dare hope.
That’s because his socio-economic welfare policies will be strong and clear. He’s a lost cause on LGBTQ and women priests.
Sweet that Leo triggers the magats.
Good take. I’m not Catholic, I’m not even christian, but I am a frequent reader of the New Testament, and kind of a fan of Jesus. It felt like Francis got Jesus. He was wrong on abortion, and it’s hard for me to accept that because of the outcomes of that opinion, but I understand it. I was opposed to abortion until my wife got pregnant. Until that point my understanding of human reproduction was theoretical. After that point, I had a much much greater appreciation for how things actually work. I’m not proud of my previous position, because it was pretty misogynistic.
We’ll see about this Leo guy. He wore the red, and that makes me suspect. I don’t think Jesus would have worn the red.
Well at least Pirro has experience being a district attorney for Westchester County, NY. Martin was/is a loud mouth promoter. So with that said I wonder where DonOLD will try and put Martin now?
Hmm, I’d forgotten the NY $365M judgement against TSF hadn’t been tossed on appeal yet. I’m sure that will be done shortly.
Habemus papam.
Very much ideologically aligned with his predecessor, and the fact that he chose Leo as his papal name is very significant. The last Leo, the 13th, was the author of the encyclical Rerum Novarum (Latin for “so, about this new stuff”), which is still a very influential statement of Catholic social thinking. In favor of stuff like decent working conditions, unions, and a living wage. Equally opposed to secular socialism and laissez-faire capitalism.
Which makes this unhinged statement:
“MARXIST POPE!” bellowed Laura Loomer in response to the George Floyd retweet.
even dumber. Though not surprising, given the source.
Personally, I was surprised by how quickly the decision happened. Only what, three rounds of voting over just about 24 hours, before the white smoke? Clearly, the efforts by Francis to put his mark on the College of Cardinals was effective.
ETA: Who wants to take a bet on the odds of vice-president Shillbilly going full sedevacantist?
At least she actually went to law school. I figured that T would choose a Fox Face who’d never been in a courtroom, but had lots of opinions on the subject.
Hopefully not back in Missouri. Well, maybe operating a ride at Silver Dollar City.
The political portrait that emerges is baffling to the American mind: liberal on immigration and the poor, conservative on abortion.
Some people believe life begins at conception. Some that it begins when there’s a heart, brain activity, or when it’s born. Some people haven’t thought about it all that much.
These are all fine as personal beliefs. Where liberals draw the line is electing a political party to “sanction” one of them. Or worse, anyone who pays enough.
Everyone is free to practice their beliefs, as long as they respect the freedom of others to do what’s best for them too.
Religion should be free of government interference.
Maybe she can play beer pong with Piss Pot Pete.
I believe even the MO GOP is done with him.

Maybe we can get some calls from Dem politicians and progressive religious groups demanding that Catholic politicians who support and or carry out drumpf’s immigration policies be denied Communion!
and government should be free of religious interference
Yes, this story made me ROFLMAO. A lot.
