We are well and truly fucked three ways to Thursday:

  1. This Supreme Court
  2. Manchin Sinema
  3. New PRRI Study

^^^This.

They’re going to toss SB8 out on its ear and then use this decision as evidence that they’re not the “partisan hacks” that is obvious to anybody who isn’t a RWNJ when they gut Roe later in the term.

I have made this point often and not just about the Supreme Court. I mean there is no more conservative decision than Roe, keeping Government hands out of the womb.

But before getting to that, for whatever reason the entire media accepts definitions given by the right wing. For example “Covid-19 has mutated into the delta variant”. The virus did not mutate, a mutation is having 3 arms. Rather, it evolved. Why are we afraid to use the proper term, because it will offend people who don’t believe in evolution? I mean the god damned think is evolving whether we say it or not so we might as well say it.

To the courts, the majority of the Supreme Court are not “Conservative”. A conservative court would not have expanded the Second Amendment meant to apply to states have “well regulated militias” to an individual right to own an assault riffle. The least conservative ruling of all time was Bush v Gore.

Rather, we have a Republican Court and if the media, including TPM is going to objectively and honestly report the news, that is what they should call the current Supreme Court, a Republican dominated institution.

Now to the case at issue, it would not surprise me if the Court does throw out the Texas law and well continuing to limit Roe, mostly keeps it. That is the constitution be damned, unless Republicans are farther along then we realize with voter nullification, politically overturning Roe is a loser for Republicans and they know it. They also know the only reason most Evangelical voters support Republicans is RACE and not abortion, that is Race is the reason White Evangelicals support Republicans and abortion is the excuse, therefore I predict in the end they will uphold Roe and continue to help Republicans steal elections because that is what is best for Republicans.

The Y-chromosome was not a mistake.

Take that Back!

At least ISIS, Al Qaeda and the Taliban are open and honest about wanting women covered up, at home, uneducated and being baby incubators.

It was however a singularly chancy and unfortunate outcome.

We’ve only got one leg to stand on.

I will say this, Ellie’s conclusion being from a very small (n=9) population is highly subject to sampling error. I propose we increase the n to, say, 25-30 justices in a balanced design.

Republicans have one goal in outlawing abortion- suppressing women.
Republicans have one goal in making it difficult for most voters to vote-suppressing minorities.
Almost everything they do falls in these 2 categories. The Fascist playbook.
First Roberts enacts Citizens United making it possible for those in power with money to hold onto their power by buying politicians.
Then Roberts made it more difficult for minorities to vote by stripping the Voting Rights act.
Now, the Fascists in power in TX are pressing further by making it impossible for women to get an abortion.

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion, but I get the feeling that some people might get a little fidgety if they hear the phrase, “Increase the size of the Court…for science!”

Not saying making them uncomfortable would be a bad thing, but just that it’s a thing that would happen.

Could go for, “Even Jesus had 12 apostles”, that gets an extra 4 seats.

Except, of course, that one does have be a certain type to do the right thing—and that type doesn’t include 99.99% of the GQP.

I think a lot of pro-life folks are going to get a taste of their cake and find it tastes like shit. It’s no secret that there are plenty of abortions within the evangelical church. Lots of hush hush - and lots of - oh how I regret it - Lord forgive me (but I still got one)
Give it a few years. This isn’t going to go the way they think it’s going to go.

I don’t think he was extrapolating beyond the members of SCOTUS.

9 + 4 = 12?

Plus there is the whole thing on should there be an even number? Even numbers make ties possible/likely (the occasional recusal with an odd number).
