Ah, one of my favorite West Wing episodes
Usually that includes bringing home the bacon for their home state via their power as committee chairs. Yet Manchin and Sienna are blocking their own ascension to those chairs. It’s a very weird political calculation
Much easier access to real Quebec maple syrup…
And/Or…
Typical Canadians. Always trying to be like their big brother to the South, always coming up just short.
Let’s re-cap:
Some Senate Democrats are unwilling to scrap a Senate procedure that appears nowhere in the Constitution. The Constitution itself merely requires a simple majority to pass most Senate measures. Meanwhile because of this unwillingness to change an arcane rule, no other business of the Senate, described and mandated by the Constitution, can take place.
They’re brought to a standstill, they can do NONE of the people’s business, because of a tradition.
One word, mon cher: poutine.

Let’s re-cap:
If you’re trying to cheer me up: it ain’t working.
Hey ST, I thought of you this morning as I sat here with my clawy squirrel and two wag-tail squirrels.
Well I’m a Chicago Bears fan. I find that a lot of re-caps aren’t very cheery.
I think the longer McConnell holds out in turning power over to Schumer, the more likely these 2 will come around.

Ignore that dude and just get your 50 votes together and get to work.
The problem that Schumer faces, (and I don’t want to appear to have too much sympathy for Chuck), is that he’s trying to herd cats. Unless he can develop some seriously powerful kompromat on the Democratic caucus, he’s unlikely to ever be able to get them to vote as a monolith the way Mitch has been able to do with the Republicans. Because, you know, “Dems in Disarray” might as well be the motto of the Democratic Party.
I want to know who decided the CJ did not need to preside. I think they should have asked him over, and let him decide if he is the proper presiding officer or not.

Doing so during the current crises will not go down well.
They’ll do it anyway. They are ALREADY DOING IT ANYWAY. Jesus fuck people…what the fuck does the GOP have to do to finally convince you that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHIGN REDEEMABLE ABOUT THEM WHATSOEVER?
I think it would be a huge mistake to not call witnesses. That is exactly what the last trial lacked. Having witnesses will replay the horror of January 6th and the magnitude of the crime caused by the former president. If you want to have any chance of getting 67 votes to convict, witnesses is your only way to get there.
From CNN: “Mitch said to me he wants Trump gone,” one Republican member of Congress told CNN. “It is in his political interest to have him gone. It is in the GOP interest to have him gone. The question is, do we get there?”
Gee, I don’t know, maybe look at the facts and do your constitutional duty? Oh right, you’re Republicans. My bad!
Don’t forget Sen. Padilla!
That was good. Let’s try another with more “end game”.
OK, roll 'em.
I think I read somewhere that 16% of the population are represented by the 41 senators who can hold up all legislation. That simply does not make sense to preserve. The Senate already is set up to give small states extra power, no need to compound that with an even higher voting requirement. Plus the filibuster really being a tool of segregation, all point to its immediate demise.
