A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
Fox News is getting a lot of heat for not airing the House Jan. 6 Committee’s upcoming public hearings live during primetime on Fox News Channel tomorrow–to which Fox News host Laura Ingraham says, you fools, you simpletons, we’re proud to say we tell our viewers exactly what they wanna hear, unlike those nerds at CNN and MSNBC!
Let’s see - Ingraham laughing at FNC’s viewers, McConaughey being laughed at by Newsmax, Thune laughing at mass extermination of varmints, Bannon laughing at various Democrats, and Gingrich laughing at Biden for appearing on Kimmel.
When do we rational folk get to start laughing at these nincompoops?
A congressional candidate in New York endorsed by a member of House GOP leadership recently shared a Facebook post claiming the mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, were false flag operations
Not so sure what happens tomorrow night is a laughing matter. We already can guess they’re going to do whatever they can to discredit the committee’s findings.
I’m also thinking the DOJ has already begun defusing this situation by refusing to pursue Meadows and Scavino. The optics aren’t good on that, although it may be justified.
The only way I laugh at these guys is not with the revelation, but with the successful prosecution of all involved and the handcuffed walks into Guantanamo. Nothing else will suffice.
Most of them won’t be in the room when this goes down. It’ll be outside the hearing room and it may well get quite violent outside the doors. I don’t know - and I won’t be able to watch it, which is a bad thing.
God forgive me but I’m going to wonder if what Ingraham is saying is true. Those hearings are the biggest show in town and FOX viewers might be as curious as anyone about what’s going to happen at them. Certainly I’m an avid hate-watcher of people I have no special admiration for. And in particular I think the news side at FOX would feel cheated by not having the chance to present and analyze the proceedings.
My problem is I’m not in the States. Won’t be back until Friday night late. I’m hoping to use the live blog, if they have one, especially now that the project lead is indicating we may be working at the plant until 9p on Thursday.
I can do the live blog safely, but watching will be impossible.
I figure, if any of the FNC audience is really all that interested, they’ll forgo Hannity and Ingraham and Tucker for one night - maybe like dear Hubby does with switching back and forth between baseball and hockey when the two events take place concurrently.
House GOP whip operation telling members to vote against two gun control bills tonight, dubbing the Protecting Our Kids Act the “Unconstitutional Gun Restrictions Act” –>
I don’t know. What I’d like is an honest survey. I assume the hard-core FOX viewers are happy enough in their silo or they’d make other choices. That said, if everyone else is paying close attention to a thing, there’s a tendency to find it interesting yourself. We’re social animals and that’s just a thing that often happens. Everyone’s talking about Wordle, you become at least curious. I think this response is closer to censorship out of fear than to giving 'em what they want. You have Miller dismissing it all, it’s all theater, what wised-up person would give it a moment of his or her time, blah blah, but while the riot was happening they were freaking the fuck out and I don’t think the blithe lack of interest expressed here is entirely genuine.
I saw further up that they’re going to carry the hearings on Fox Business - that’s where their talking heads will be. The note said that FBC generally only gets a couple hundred thousand of viewers. If Thursday night shows a significant bump in viewership, I think we can continue to believe that Laura is so full of it, her eyes are brown.
Will be interesting if FBC’s ratings for Thursday night are even reported. I suspect there won’t be a chyron or scroll at the bottom of FNC’s broadcasts, inviting viewers to switch over for the proceedings.
