“I am very open to having that discussion about additional money to the states,” Blunt told TPM, after a Senate committee hearing on election preparations.

This is certainly getting massaged and walked back shortly.

McConnell, who has been largely dismissive of the idea that voters have had trouble accessing the ballot, is not a fan of conditioning the federal aid on making voting easier.

Need we know anything more about MoscowMitch or any of these other bastards?

You’ll notice he didn’t say which states.

Matching funds for the federal government to protect the democratic process. It really pains them to have to spring for anything other than sending postage-paid envelopes to the second homes of billionaires and trillionaires.

Trump giving big strong powerful crime speech.

Boy, it sure doesn’t sound like the president presiding over this huge spike in violent crime is doing a very good job

Reading numbly from a teleprompter. His minders have him on a short leash.

I’ll be contrarian. Blunt is probably the most institutional of the Republican leadership. If I had to bet on anyone doing the right thing, it would be him.

He is the type to listen when state authorities say “we have a huge problem here” and it is likely to bite everyone in the butt.

Trump’s. Non-stop pushing against vote by mail, has pushed up the number of democrats who are voting by mail, while pushed down the number of republicans. This shifts whose ox gets gored. Chaos at the polls is more likely in many of these states to hurt republicans, who now are refusing the traditional (successful) push by republicans to bank their votes.

Blunt is smart enough (unlike say cornyn) to know this.

No, Trump doesn’t look anywhere near that good.

Actually, he looks like someone just shoved a steel rod up his butt.

Must be those darn numbers…
Sinking poll numbers and
Disappearing donor numbers!

Blunt suggested that the Senate would be looking at lowering the match rate of the initial tranche, so states had easier access to the “money that is already out there.”

This looks good BUT this “goodness” is offseted by the “badness” of Trump wanting to defund the USPS because of the mail-in-voting!

Is this grandstanding/burnishing re-election chance or just another dick move from Rethugs?

Possibly, but at this point, based on the last 3+ years, I am not ready to accept that any GOP politician is going to do anything beneficial for the American People.

Basically, he is spinning activities which have been coordinated, as I understand, with the city for some time, and is making believe that he is somehow the “Great White Savior”. Otherwise, much of this is unconstitutional.

He will send various federal agents to “drive down violent crime.” How, by beating up The Moms and retired members of the military? Rather than controlling Covid-19, energizing the economy, discuss remedies to racial injustice at the hands of the police, he prefers sending armed federal thugs to brutalize urban areas. Something tells me this will not end well.

I think it ends with a whimper. The Portland Gambit is not working out as planned, and I’m pretty sure that 150 Feds added to Chicago’s ca. 12,000 officers aren’t going to deepen the “dent in crime”. And as I said, I’m pretty sure that this assistance had been asked for and arranged mutually. At least that’s what the Mayor said. Now, if there’s a detachment of DHS “Goons”, that’s another thing. But this is all Trumpist kabuki.
