McConnell’s wife, former Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, was visiting China at the time he was hospitalized but didn’t cut her trip short and remains in the country, saying in a statement that “the Senator’s health did not warrant an immediate return to the US.” While on her trip, she met with various Chinese leaders, including Vice President Han Zheng.
I guess his wife is not concerned.

If there was a way to pull a Hollywood movie stunt and go back in time to tell a healthier McConnell how things were going to work out for him (specifically how fellow Republicans would utterly disrespect his wrinkled husk of a body), if he would honestly be okay with it.

I had the same thought, but after thinking about the thought, I wish people would stop saying it. Because I’m so old I remember the genesis of the gag was that the evil old fuck just clung on the very brink of death for day after day after day. Which makes “Our top story tonight: Mitch McConnell is still dead!” a joke I never, ever want to hear on Weekend Update.

I think I sense some doubt about Senator McConnell’s improving state of health among posters here.
Please do keep in mind that detecting two nerve cells firing when previously there was only one is a 100% improvement and that it is probably twice as many nerve cells firing as those that have these 20 minute conversations with hm.

They’re just planning for what happens when she loses access through her husband - whether she goes back into government herself, or marries someone who has a good high clearance level.
The fact of the matter is that when Franco died, there was no heir apparent. Like many authoritarians he had eliminated anyone who could have replaced him. And there was no constitutional mechanism to replace him. So when he did die, no one had a clue what to do. So they kept claiming he was “alert and doing the people/s business” while they could figure out what to do. And that took time.
Now Mitch is apparently still alive, at least technically. But they sure were acting like those surrounding Franco acted.
But imagine if what would happen if Trump stroked out or Lindsey’d. Yes, we have a mechanism to replace Trump. But there would be chaos in the clown car for a few days. Trump has made himself the heart and soul of MAGA. Without him, they will collapse as a movement.
