Kentucky Braces For Long Lines As Voters Head To The Polls | Talking Points Memo

Amy is the new Allison Grimes- she leans Right thinking it’s going to fool people. She’s done a 180° since her last campaign for the House. And all it does is dishearten the people who would otherwise have to carry her campaign.

I would say the one thing all Kentuckians hate the most- right or left- is a phony.

How much preparation do you think McConnell really needs against an underfunded, African American, Progressive in Kentucky?

Booker is a strong advocate for the Green New Deal, for example…which means ending the use of coal. Good luck on pitching that in Kentucky against McConnell.

Races aren’t won solely by who raises and spends the most money. If that were true, we’d all be defending Bloomberg as the Dem nominee right now. McGrath is currently polling LOWER than Booker when it comes to a hypothetical face off against Mitch in November

Of course KY isn’t a liberal haven. But out of state Dems keep making the same mistakes about thinking they know who is the best candidate to win on their side. Authenticity and credibility matters more than being a moderate if a Dem wants to win in the South.

Outside the state, everyone loves Amy, because they don’t live here and that’s all they know about. At least until George Floyd was murdered and all eyes turned to Charles. Inside the state, the progressives hate Amy, and I mean hate, for botching a Kavanaugh gotcha question and trying to appeal to the general population and not just kissing progressive’s asses of which they demanded.

Either Booker or McGrath would be a vast improvement over Mitch. A fucking ham sandwich would be better than Mitch. I’d love to see Charles win the primary and beat Mitch, sweet! However, I’m a pragmatist about beating Mitch no matter what it takes. I do worry a little if Amy wins the primary, the Bernie progressive types will fuck up the best chance we’ve had to defeat Mitch, ever.

The problem with both candidates, is they are young and unseasoned. McGrath ran one race for Congress and lost by 3 points which is the closest Dems have come there since 2010, when Ben Chandler won it in a squeaker (He was defeated two years later by 4 points and its a been safely republican since). Booker won a very safe seat for the state legislature, after a relatively close primary win to be the candidate.

McConnell has been running, and winning, elections since 1977. (Two terms in Jefferson County before Senate run in 1984).

He’s just throwing gasoline on the fire.

It’ll be their mantra the whole way through November, that the election is tainted and we can’t trust the results and by golly the only people that can solve the mess are the Supremes.

Except that’s not what is happening.

Around 38% of KY voters either voted early or by mail.
That “single polling place” has 350 voting machines, and as shown today on “Morning Joe,” has no long lines.

Booker actually went down to coal country, at least in the eastern mountain area, not sure if got down to the western Pennyrile area where it’s more strip mining than deep digs, but he did talk to a lot of minors about kitchen table issues they and the urban poor had in common and got a pretty good response.

And those early votes will probably be more on the Amy side than the Booker side.

One poll. That is what you are basing everything on…one Civiqs poll. And given how completely out of step it is with every other poll that has been taken in KY for over a year, I am going to be a bit more skeptical of it.

Not solely, but money damn sure matters. Particularly when you have little to no state wide name recognition against perhaps the most well known politician in the state.

You aren’t seriously going to lecture me about what’s necessary for a Dem to win in the South, are you??

I would assume so.

I like Booker, but I think his shot will be taking on Rand Paul when he’s up for reelection.

That is the real issue here.

That crowd has a very bad habit of making the perfect the enemy of the good with their stupid purity stance.

Yeah, I read the reports. And noticed they were very specific in not mentioning the Green New Deal coming up, or about any specific policy points he was proposing to them regarding coal.

The fact is, if he is supporting the Green New Deal, which he is, he is advocating for eliminating their entire industry. He can certainly try to take the approach that HRC took, about re-education and job training…but that didn’t go over well for her, either. And I get it, its a reality that is coming down on them, hell or high water…but tap dancing around it isn’t exactly the “authentic” approach I see being proclaimed here in support of Booker.

You would not believe some of the Zoom meetings I’ve been on.

Hemp and solar are making their ways into coal country. Slowly because, Mitch. They want jobs, and if you can give them jobs that don’t give them black lung and blow off mountain tops and poison the streams where they get their water, and treat them like human beings, then we’ll get somewhere.

Mitch is the one preventing any of the Green New Deal taking root in those areas. He has scared them to death while destroying their unions and providing no alternative. While getting rich on it, also too.

And this is the wrong time for that.

For THIS PARTICULAR criminal (McConnell)

I didn’t know they were offering free bus services for Lexington & Louisville, that’s fantastic! I LOVED the voting by mail, and though I’m doubtful it will be available in November, it’s encouraging that it’s happened at all with a R SOS.
