Peaceful conditions are far better than war for investing and making money.
It’s a weird Lefty ideological fun-house mirror to think of this as profit motive.
Permanent war is great though for career building in security forces and it’s also great for power-seeking politicos. Power rather than profit. There’s a difference. Sometimes the two go together, but not always.
Despite the fact that Reagan and Bush oversaw several military (and civilian) tragedies, the Right always seems to forget those when their guy is in office and imagine that every US incursion will be like invading Grenada (and of course, it will be/is Vietnam when a Democrat holds the reins).
There is no blueprint in the Pentagon or guidelines at the Army war college on how to end a war. Even after WWII officially ended in 1945 there were still skirmishes in Europe well into the late 40’s. There were militias not associated with governments going after Nazis and some of their supporters Willy nilly. In the Pacific you had numerous Japanese soldiers laying down their arms or going into hiding in the jungles.
This is what MQ-9 Predators and AGM-114 Hellfires are for. We should have about 20 of them in surveillance above Kabul 24/7 like waiting vultures until the last C-17 leaves Kabul airport and then have the B-52’s come in and carpet bomb the suspected ISIS-K hangouts, wherever they may be.
So what? At any time in the next 20 years they can also enter the US by buying a ticket on a commercial plane. Or walk in from canada or mexico. Obsessing over “sleeper” refugees is silly. Also, this isn’t an Ian Fleming novel, no need to allcap Daesh.
