JM posts just now on DHS shutting a bunch of offices, “basically everyone in the department charged with providing some oversight of the treatment of people by the department’s various policing agencies or when in detention.”
So, hateful and cruel, as expected. But Josh notes that most or all of the offices are statutory, meaning that shutting them down is breaking the law.
I turn to the Washington Post’s story on this, at the very top of the page. Important stuff! No mention that the offices are statutory. No suggestion that the law is being broken, or even that it’s someone’s opinion that the law is being broken. Silence. Abject failure.
Repeating myself, but if our legacy media had done even a minimally adequate job of reporting on Trump and the GOP starting back in 2016, I seriously doubt we would be in the fix we’re in.

Listen, Obama is one of the few politicians I respect, he is temperamentally conservative, just like me. What would I do if I was in his shoes, probably nothing. What would I like him to do (even if might not do it myself in his shoes)? At very least speak up, Trump never stopped attacking and criticizing, Obama and Biden. There is no legal or customary reason for him to remain silent, same goes for Kamala.

Agreed. But…I don’t think it excuses total silence. He can speak out in support, say, of AOC, or Bernie, or Chris Murphy, or the people going to Town Halls, or the thousands of federal workers being kicked to the curb. Everyone who is not MAGA is now a potential target for their hate, now with the full force of the Presidency and Trump’s admin behind it. Say something, Barack. You owe it to the country.
