Judge Rules Alaska GOPer Is Likely Barred From Office For Being An Oath Keeper

No one in BLM stormed a government building in order to disrupt the certification of election results. Or in other words-overthrow a legitimately elected government.

The 2nd Amendment trumps the 1st Amendment every time. (Terms and conditions apply)

Evidence of despair and panic.

Dan Proft has a PAC, funded, I understand, by a Mr. Uihlein who has contributed heavily to Darren Bailey, named “People Who Play by the Rules” - although I would suggest that a better name might be “People Who Would Rule, and Regard it as Play.”

It’s running an ad on local television here in Chicagoland that people have nicknamed “the Lakeview Scream” - it may be available on Youtube if you’re in a mood to be pandered to. It’s a doorbell camera video of an assault that happened in popular Lakeview neighborhood a few months ago (I do not know whether it is of the actual event). The only sound is that of a car pulling up to a sidewalk on a pleasant, leafy but sunlit street, and the voice of a woman first trying to fend off the three hooded attackers who were in the car, and then screaming. No voiceover. And as it ends, it runs the names of Mayor Lightfoot and Gov. Pritzker at the bottom of the screen.

It’s a remarkable throwback to Roger Ailes’ Willie Horton stuff; there is no reference to candidate Bailey or what he might do, because that might require him to, you know, articulate a position that’s nuanced, likely to work and isn’t racist, fascistic or just stupid as fencepost (by contrast, Pritzker’s campaign has been running ads using Bailey’s own words comparing abortion rights to the Holocaust, so perhaps best for Bailey to say as little as possible and let the PAC money do the dirty work). The point is to underscore that violence at the hands of unknown assailants is a problem across Chicago - which we already know. But again, nothing about what Bailey might do if elected Governor. Appeal ad hominem, then, not to anyone’s faculties of reason.

On the bright side, the usually conservative Trib ran a thoughtful editorial Sunday critiquing Proft’s POS; it’s probably behind a paywall though.

Sorry to be long-winded on the topic; good on Pritzker for calling out this scam.

No person who advocates, or who aids or belongs to any party or organization or association which advocates, the overthrow by force or violence of the government of the United States or of the State shall be qualified to hold any public office of trust or profit under this constitution.

Hippies and other libs in the 60’s didn’t even do that.

The Vietnam War was immoral. Our soldiers – our kids – were being used without a plan for success. The “Domino Theory”? We called it b.s. and it was. Look around. Over the summer, I got a new La-Z-Boy… made in Vietnam.

Afghanistan was b.s. Thank you, President Biden, for saving our kids.

Now we’re saying Trumpism is b.s.. We won’t stop until Donald Trump is no longer a threat to this nation… or our kids.

The national popular vote compact would make it (the Electoral College) irrelevant. Basically, 270 EV votes worth of states agree to award their EVs to the national popular vote winner, but it does not take effect until at least 270 EVs worth of states have passed the legislation making it law. No constitutional convention required, just plain old state law. The tiny states can then go fuck themselves. But it’s only a temporary fix if it comes into play. If any States drop out, such that the EV count goes below 270, then it goes back to how it is now.

Necessary safety mechanism, but one that a certain party will totally take advantage of.

Yes, when I said “a Mr. Uihlein” I was being arch - and perhaps that was a mistake; in the brouhaha early in the pandemic and workplace masking policies being a topic, his company (north of the state line) got some deserved attention. Too bad, they used to send out a catalogue that was a handy one-stop, and perhaps like Koch Industries they’re hard to avoid. But no, I don’t go there.

@occamscoin But sort of like the ERA ratification, the national popular vote compact feels a bit like Zeno’s Paradox. We creep up toward the goal, but it is languishing/has languished for years without managing to cross that threshold.

The guy in the image just doesn’t look trustworthy in any respect. It’s just an impression but there it is.

He can’t tell you cause the medal is classified.

He’s probably VA-rated at 100% for PTSD from the time a box of MREs fell off the pallet onto his foot and he was sure it was hajis on a terrorist attack on the base.

Now there is a loser for you, losing to a write-in is worse than losing to a dead candidate.

The problem is that all the larger Blue states have signed on, now you’re trying to get enough of the smaller Red states (who would clearly lose power and influence once it’s passed) to join in. I think the only thing that’s going to save this country will be if enough Blue state retirees move to places like Wyoming (which currently has fewer voters than my former county in California) and establish residency long enough to swap things around. It would only take a few hundred thousand here and few more there to make this happen, so it’s theoretically possibly, although I can imagine the Rednecks would go non-linear if their trailer parks started filling up with “those others”.

And until then…
