Judge Rejects Trump’s Vision Of An All-Powerful Presidency In Blocking Chunks Of His Election Order

trump is not known for his empathy or caring for others unless there is some angle that benefits him. He is that selfish

How much will Bukele demand as ransom, I wonder? He’s certainly not going to repatriate him for nothing. Even for his good buddy, President Rump

I’ll take that bet, at odds. Trump folds.

and one requiring the various agencies… to assess each individual’s citizenship

Naturally, the Internal Revenue Service, which Musk targeted because it has tons of data about each individual citizen, isn’t on the list. Trump accepts everyone’s money, even non-Americans in Scotland.

I dunno…Bukele’s already been paid, probably per head, so as long as he doesn’t have to give any money back, 1 less prisoner is a marginal increase in profit.

They’ll get their assistance. And it will set the precedent that all aid is denied to every state, then dispensed to the governors who kiss the ring and do proper obeisance. It’s a win-win for him – demolishing government, restoring it for those who come bearing gifts and praise, denying it to the blue states who won’t.

There are two major problems with Trump’s decision that the US recognize Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea. First, it violates, indeed rejects the existence of, international law. All that would be left after such a move is possessing nukes. Great news for North Korea, Iran and Israel (maybe). Second, as noted, Crimea would go back to being Ukrainian in the event of another collapse or regime change in Russia post-Putin. For example, after the USSR collapsed in 1991, Latvians who could produce deeds for their property pre-WWII retained title after being dislodged from buildings and farms for 5 decades. In just 100 days, Trump and Putin have made the US into a pariah state.

Who would a thought that a guy who was never successful until he had his own popular TV show would now care about his ratings more than anything? It doesn’t play well in the SC, or in Peoria. I think you will win the bet, dr_

Even with Trump’s executive orders tanking the dollar and shaking up the bond market, statal collapse may ultimately be in the hands of Congressional Republicans. I know, those people.
I’m particularly alarmed at the passivity of my Congressman, Vince Fong, who has an accounting background.

Another judge’s order to be ignored.

She also dinged the administration for making misrepresentations to court. In a revelation shortly before a hearing earlier this month, the voting group plaintiffs produced proof that the head of the EAC was already reaching out to state election officials for guidance about how to put the citizenship requirement into effect — despite claiming to the Court that implementation of the order had not yet begun.

I wish sometimess that judges could go directly to contempt sanctions. Just throw the agency head in a cell while you’re figuring out the details of their lies to the court.

I think the Dems should give up the ghost on this one. We should just support everyone getting their paperwork and showing an ID at the voting booth. This line about “nobody has ID - it’s a burden” - I’ve been hearing that for 45 years. You need an ID for virtually everything you do in daily life. It’s not an unreasonable thing for something as important as the vote. Whoever was old and didn’t have an ID in 1980, those days are past. They need to get their shit together and get an ID. It’s not in the Constitution that ‘NO ID IS NEEDED’ so the SCOTUS will probably enforce this anyways. It would be better for the Dems to get ahead of it and move forward.

What about those of us who live in states that have mail-in ballots, like Washington state where I live? Does your suggestion mean the end of that? I certainly hope not because I like our approach. (meant as a response to tommbombadil)
