The START treaty expires tomorrow. So something new to worry about? Not to fear, Trump has also blocked progress on the UN LAWS (Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems) treaty, which was supposed to be signed this year. One can already imagine an AI agent or AGI either gaining control over existing nukes or building their own nuclear weapons to gain negotiating leverage with humans. And thanks to Elon’s latest data center initiative, the AI wouldn’t even have to physically exist on earth; it could offshore to a Lagrange point, the moon, or some asteroid.
pocket-pool PETEY strikes again!!
“Again?” They never stop.
I can’t tell if they want him to get the D nomination for President or if that is the thing that terrifies them.
Leon was the wrong judge to try this shit with. He’s a “real” conservative ideologue, not just a partisan hack (for the most part), and this kind of nonsense will be like petting a cat in the wrong direction for him.
One could easily predict this, if one had paid any attention to science fiction over the last 200 plus years… Of course, what are the odds that lawyers and biz majors read? Particularly that nerdy genre cruft?
Following this logic, if you join the military you permanently would lose your first amendment rights.
Artificial intelligence?
Oh, wait - I forgot GIGO.
One of the many things Trump has proven in his 10 year rampage is that an infinite number of mediocre lawyers can destroy a great country without firing a shot.
More likely, we will sue you and persecute you until we bankrupt you with Lawyer fees. That has always been Donnie Trump’s MO. Finally, there are more and more people standing up to him, but at their own personal expense. Kelly should counter sue both Hegsbreth and DJT for damages and expenses.
You are so right. The next Democratic Congress should legislate this travesty out of existence.
One man One vote.
Dear Judges,
Now, we’d like you to be activist. Thanks.
Yours,
GOP
The building blocks are stacking up. There’s this, that, and the other thing all coming at us in waves.
I am making my plans and depending on how things look just before and soon after the planned elections i can be in Italy on a residence visa within a couple of weeks.
i am so “steeling” this. The resulting irony is oxidizing.
At least it’s not a train of sealed boxcars.
Yet.
(And thank you, your Honor. And thanks to Senator Kelly and the other signers of that letter, too.)
In fact, the only way that what Kelly and his colleagues said – namely, that U.S. servicemembers should not follow illegal orders – could be considered a criticism of DoD or the rest of the administration would be if they were in fact issuing (or planning to) such illegal orders.
Which brings us to our next question, Mr. Secretary…
Hegseth makes two wild claims:
1). if you join the military you lose your 1st Amendment free speech rights for life
- Reciting military law correctly will corrupt our soldiers.
Republicans hate judges who legislate from the bench, except when they don’t.
No, it’s fine for the Republicans as long as it favors them. If not, all bets are off.
They are doing this because Trump and his administration need to publicly delegitimize his views and points as they are afraid of what he is saying. The Republican base has accepted the lies and distortions for so long that they have abdicated rational thought. If Sen. Kelly is allowed to speak, his background will resonate with some on the far right and his message will cause questions to be asked. Trump cannot allow that to happen. Much of what Trump does and says is to change the whiplash narrative so that no one has the time to focus and attack and educate his base on that topic. And the press continuously falls for this.
We need a set of people of divvy up topics and to maintain pressure on Trump and his minions to address and actually answer these questions. On a daily basis. Expose their stupidity and corruption, and the true benefactors of Trump’s policies. Trump knows that he can change the narrative by making a new outrageous statement or action, leaving him room to continue with what he wants from the start. And we all fall for it. Focus and demand answers. Show respect for the offices, but not the individuals in the offices. The Republicans do not follow the “Marquess of Queensberry rules” of engagement, so neither should the rest of us.
Pound facts, pound the laws, and pound the consequences of Trump’s actions. The Republicans sold their base the idea that the Democrats were giving things away to “others” at the expense of their (Republican’s) base, and FOX and others further cemented this lie. They are frightened of Sen. Kelly because of his background and how he can potentially break through the mountain of lies they’ve carefully built and maintained. They will stop at nothing to publicly destroy him. If he succeeds, they are finished. And they know it.
