Johnson Aims To Keep Government Open But Avoid McCarthy’s Fate – TPM – Talking Points Memo

Not to worry, Johnson is working hard at being hated.

Kevin McCarthy is coming unhinged and imploding in spectacular fashion watching his successor Mike Johnson’s amazing success. The brainless Bakersfield twit is losing whatever little air was between his ears. He could at least try to be a little more classy or less of a dildohead. I know, that’s really tough for one of Skanky’s little whores.

Semi-OT: McCarthy might have decided to get some licks in on a few of the MAGAtoids who took his speakership away:

Burchett continues, saying that McCarthy "scurried off" after "sucker punching" him and that he chased after McCarthy but wasn't "looking to knock him out" He adds that "it still hurts" because it was a "shot to the kidneys," but he isn't looking to file an ethics complaint. pic.twitter.com/7jX5T1gnUU

Matt Gaetz might want to consider wearing a groin and kidney guard until McCarthy shuffles back home to California for good.

One reporter who observed the McCarthy/Burchett dustup wrote that she had never seen or heard anything like it in Congress but there is precedence and some reason to suspect those days could be coming again if they are not already here.

It was giving me that error message over two hours ago. I just logged back in and got a blown up TMP red circle logo. But I clicked on it and it went to the normal front page.

First… the answer is… reelection is everything

Second… governing? Wassat? “Wait” (sez Mikey) " I hafta work at this job???"

Ds were right to regard the “ladder” as basically irrelevant, particularly since the “rungs” are so close together. Senate may dismiss that nonsense anyway but since Johnson will need D votes again to pass the next CR in whole or part, there’s always the chance to dispense with the BS and do thing like a grown up. But he insists on folding the sheets one day and the towels two weeks later, so be it.

Sumner was never the same after the caning. He suffered a head injury that left him debilitated.

I can’t speak to any debilitation you mention, but he along with Thaddeus Stevens led congressional efforts to grant equal civil and voting rights to freedmen and to block ex-Confederates from power so they would not reverse the gains derived from the Union’s victory in the war. This was post-beating. Because he was very vocal in pushing for emancipation, the conservative press at the time claimed he was mentally ill.

So I am not sure how much stock to put into the claims he was “debilitated” and “never the same”.

Looks like House Republicans all got caned before coming to DC. :smirk:

The concerns were that Republicans would put programs they like in one batch and the ones they don’t like in another. That way they can fund some programs and shut-down others.

But then they just separated the funding into arbitrary groupings with arbitrary expiration dates. It’s basically a clean CR separated into two bills with no sneaky Republican strategy behind it. In short - it’s dumb and pointless, but harmless.
