The ‘Campaign of Censorship and Control’ Will the Federal Communications Commission ever actually punish Disney or CBS for FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s belief that those networks are in violation of the agency’s “equal time” rule? We may never know the answer to that question, and that appears to be the point. Both networks have, in…
God I want Ann Wagner out of MO-2. I thought Todd Aiken was a loser for all of his 6 terms, but Wanger is running for her 8th term.
keep half an eye on MO-02, an R+8 district, which could get swept up if a big enough blue wave manifests
The generic ballot is around D+7 so it is likely that a whole bunch of GOP gerrymandered districts are going to flip blue. Especially if an enthusiasm gap at the polls magnifies that effect.
So how many of us will subscribe to Jimmy’s show YT channel?? I just did!!
Let me make it easy for you.
Brendan meet Barbra.
Barbra, Brendan.
Mr. Carr would like to learn about cause and effect in social media, Ms. Streisand.
No doubt more people will watch the YouTube interview than would have watched the late night TV show. But I think Kimmel should invite Paxton to come on his show, thereby satisfying the equal time rule. Paxton would likely chicken out, but they could run his refusal every night until the election.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
And:
All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.
Which is to say, the executive branch shall make no laws.
Seems pretty damned simple to me.
Speaking of voting, I just got this from Indivisible. Apparently the next No Kings day isn’t going to be protests:
The No Kings coalition, whose hundreds of affiliated groups have put
millions of Americans into the streets in support of democracy, rolled
out its next big event yesterday. In a press release, the groups announced
that October 17 will be a day of “coordinated, nonpartisan action
across the country to drive early voting.” As organizers explained:Millions
took to the streets last year and gathered for one of the largest
single-day, nonviolent direct actions in U.S. history in March. No
Kings: Vote Early is the next step in
this growing movement, making sure we use our collective power at the
ballot box for the future we want for our families, communities, and
country.Rather
than one more date for massive, made-for-media events, the organizers
have set their sights on generating thousands of local events “working
toward a common goal: making sure every eligible voter has a plan to
vote early (where possible), knows their options for how to vote, and is
ready to make their voice count by casting their ballot.”
The timing could not be more propitious, given the Trump regime’s attempt to disrupt midterm voting. Its most recent stunt, an effort to use the Post Office to impose burdensome new rules on mail-in voting, was sidelined (for now) by a preliminary injunction issued Friday by District Judge Indira Talwani in Massachusetts. But the Trump regime is appealing and will no doubt generate one gimmick after another designed to thwart early and mail-in balloting, intimidate state and local officials, and sow confusion among voters.

The man who was shot a few blocks from my house Tuesday was a 20 year old autistic man with high support needs. He was armed with a Toy BB gun.
A deputy “lit him up right outside the window while I ate my pizza” according to one of the scores of middle school students who witnessed the killing.
The family of the shot man was LDS, and the church he went to is right next to the middle school. On her Facebook post, the mother said that she always told her son he was safe at church and school.
The family of the deceased man is being represented now by a civil rights attorney.
What a fuck up.
I’m so sorry about this whole story. Your entire neighborhood, from kids to adults, must be feeling the horror.

WTF is Nicole talking about, and to whom is she talking? Not me. I get that Josh Marshall is proud of TPM’s success at staying ahead of the trends, but really.
TPM has been realigning itself for some time now. That’s been obvious. I’m just not sure it’s in a direction that will appeal to me.

‘Actual blasphemy’: Critics stunned by ‘repulsive’ video at Trump convention
“And on June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’” the narrator says. “So God gave us Trump.”
“God said, ‘I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, fix this country, work all day, fight the Marxist, eat supper then go to the Oval Office and stay past midnight and a meeting of the heads of state.’ So God made Trump.”
Critics were stunned by the video’s blatant idolatry, especially on a stage where speaker after speaker had attacked Democrats about faith while posturing as defenders of Christianity.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, for example, said Democrats “want to kick God out of our country.”
First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress attacked the beliefs of Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico ― a Presbyterian seminarian ― as “blasphemous,” “evil,” and “not beliefs that any true Christian could support ever,” as The Christian Post reported.
Trump himself even had a moment where he asked attendees to raise their right hands and pledge, not to God… but “to the greatest president in the history of the United States,” claiming he “loves us so much he can’t even breathe.”
Then, Trump said they would go to hell if they didn’t vote.
Given all that, critics found a video naming Trump as “caretaker” chosen by God himself, to be not just blasphemous, but the kind of thing you might find in a cult:

Joe diGenova, the prosecutor who was tapped by Attorney General Todd Blanche to supervise the “grand conspiracy” investigation targeting Obama- and Biden-era officials, abruptly resigned on Thursday.
In a brief call with CBS News, diGenova said he had turned in his resignation letter to Blanche at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
“It was an honor and a privilege to serve the president and the department,” he said. He added that his wife, attorney Victoria Toensing, who also worked with the team of federal prosecutors in Fort Pierce, Florida, will be leaving the Justice Department on Friday.
diGenova declined to comment on the reasons for his sudden departure, which was first reported by ABC News. CBS News has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.

Indeed! Those of us with special needs family members (I have 2 sibs) live our entire lives trying to keep them safe, and dreading something awful will happen to them. While the public is often kind, there are always those who prefer not to understand or just to mind their own business. And, of course, there are trigger happy LE officers whose professionalism never quite took. So sad for that family.
Checkered as they are, the histories contained in the biblical narratives would indicate that the God represented therein is seriously displeased by idolotry and the shenanigans accompanying it. Question: will they get away with it? Stay tuned.
