The House Jan. 6 Committee is holding its tenth hearing today at 1:00 p.m. ET. The panel has signaled that it is winding down, potentially wrapping up the investigation and preparing a report on its findings as the November midterms approach.
I’m at work today and won’t be able to watch, so I want to thank all my TPM friends in advance for keeping me updated on today’s juicy revelations.
Jan. 6 Hearing To Unveil New Evidence As Committee Pushes Toward Conclusion
At this point I am not sure it matters unless the J6 folks interview that Mar-a-Lago fellow who moved boxes on trump’s orders last May (the move was caught on video) after a subpoena to return them to the Archives. These may be the boxes taken from Mar-a-Lago to Bedminster by private jet that’s on video. That is obstruction of the 20 year variety I think.
Re Ginni. A lot of times when lying is central to what is going on, true believers like Ginni are less important than people who are smart enough to know that what they are saying is a lie. Of course you don’t want them too smart either.
Not within the scope of the J6 Committee’s investigation unless there is J6-related material in the stash, which we have not had confirmation of. I would expect the Committee to have reached out to the FBI to inquire whether there was anything of interest to the J6 investigation.
That’s from 2021. Questions about those (in retrospect) very suspicious boxes resurfaced after the execution of the MAL search warrant. It was two days after NARA told Team Fat Boy that there were still documents missing and they were probably at MAL.
Sort of off topic, but I got a chance to chat with Adam Schiff for a while on Monday.
One of my questions to him was whether they had a transition plan for their evidence in the case of a GOP takeover of the house. He first said they would be done and their committee would be dissolved by their original charter before the Congress changes hands, if it does.
The other thing he said was that the Committee would be handing over much of its evidence to the DOJ in the interim, including all their transcripts. So I was reassured that Jim Jordan won’t be able to stop the DOJ, at least from getting its hands on the J6 committee’s evidence.
I think @darrtown is referring to a photo showing boxes being moved to Trump’s plane. There is no evidence I’m aware of that these boxes contain documents he shouldn’t have, it’s just speculation.
If there was any hard evidence the FBI would already be raiding Bedminster and checking out that Citation bizjet too.
Well, I assume that if the DOJ had probable cause that there were documents at Bedminster, they would get a search warrant. So far, that hasn’t happened.
Remember, no overt investigative steps within 60 days or so of the election. But I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if the feds were interviewing employees at Bedminster to find out what they know about any suspicious boxes and the presidential records that may be squirreled away within.
Remember, prosecutors have to have evidence to prove to a federal magistrate that it is more likely than not that the evidence of crimes they are searching for is located at the place to be searched. Video of the boxes being loaded on the plane is a good start, but it’s in no way sufficient to establish what the contents are or that they ended up at Bedminster.
