Not surprising. That’s what I expected.

And the police will most likely get off on all charges so he can’t even file a civil suit for the lost income he’ll not have for the rest of his life.

[“He said his son now has ‘eight holes’ in his body and is paralyzed from the waist down, though doctors don’t know if the paralysis will be permanent.”]

Hoping for the very best outcome.

Someone must go to prison for this.

Online court records indicate Kenosha County prosecutors charged Blake on July 6 with sexual assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection with domestic abuse. An arrest warrant was issued the following day.

I wonder if that warrant is still outstanding.

I can bet that no one will. Probable cause or some such nonsense.

This is so vile, I have no more words.

Except: I am getting so sick of hearing and reading about this every damned day.

And I feel so helpless.

Just remember that this is the world the GOP salivates over - just shoot them all dead without any repercussions. They’ve been saying this for years - it’s only recently that it’s become a daily occurrence, as you note. But this is where the Right sees America heading and they are only to happy to help it along.

It’s a given that these police shootings are becoming more well-known and more widely publicized because of the ubiquitousness of cell phones and social media but I can’t help but to feel their frequency is in fact increasing. Something seems to have fundamentally changed in the nation’s psyche that, if not condones, actually encourages this lawless (wild west?) behavior.

How I hope I’m wrong.

It’s strange that they didn’t look up the cops records.

Probably part of investigation, just not yet revealed. I know they did with Chauvin (the Floyd murder).

I propose that the City of Kenosha should find the high-7/low-8-figures it will take to settle the coming lawsuit straight out of the po-po’s budget.

  1. The paralyzed condition may not be permanent. Time will tell.
  2. Even if permanent, paraplegics can and do hold jobs and earn a decent living.
  3. Payments by cities to victims of shootings can be and are made before criminal proceedings are finished.

Blake’s situation is tragic, but jumping to to instant dire conclusions says you don’t believe in a person’s ability to rebound from hardship. As one who has, I encourage you to not be so quick to doom him.

Fun fact, my cell number is one digit difference from the Kenosha city attorney’s office. I had to change my VM message. I’m getting calls from all over the country. sheesh.

That video was hard to watch even before I knew he had 3 of his kids in the car.

It doesn’t matter with regard to this shooting. The officers had not identified the warrant and were not placing him under arrest for that warrant. They were under the impression that he was a suspect in the violence that they were called to address. He was a witness to that violence, not a perpetrator. They have no legal authority to shoot a witness who wishes to leave.

Also: don’t pay any attention to the “possibly reaching for a gun” nonsense. The police always claim that a weapon may have been present. There is no credibility to that claim. It’s a blanket excuse they always invoke after the fact after they realize they’ve illegally shot somebody.

Blake was shot because he wasn’t obeying their orders. But we do not live in a nation where the police are legally empowered to tell people what to do at all times, not even when the person is black.

It depends a lot on what line of work the man is in.

I’d be careful before minimizing just how much damage the police have done to this man’s life.

This is the part that always pisses me off. Taxpayers pay each and every time, not the police union, the taxpayers. There are those assholes that comment on these types of stories that the victim will get a huge payout, but it’s the taxpayers who pay that money, and frankly I’m tired of it footing the bills for poor policing.
