Duval County Sheriff Mike Williams said safely hosting the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville as planned is no longer an option, saying Monday that his office was “past the point of no return to execute the event with safety and security.”
I’m afraid this article left me perplexed, most likely a reflection of the RNC logic or really lack of logic. So the convention is going to go ahead in Jacksonville, but the sheriff when he says it’s past the point of no return means that he cannot endorse the safety of the plan? I read the article twice but I’m not sure if the GOP convention is going to be cancelled and carried out online instead?
It could be worse - at least the RNC pays it’s bills to local communities. Trump still owes Washington DC $7 million for his Inaugural and millions more for cities hosting his rallies in 2016. (Has he paid Tulsa, etc, for this latest go-around?)
An RNC spokesperson released a statement in response to Williams concerns about the viability of the convention saying “Jacksonville has accommodated upwards of 70,000 people for football games and other events, and we are confident in state, local and federal officials to be able to ensure a safe event for our attendees.” That’s obviously a specious given this isn’t an ordinary football game and it’s not an ordinary time.
There are officially no adults in charge of the RNC. This comment was in response to the sheriff’s recent statement.
I just can’t wrap my head around the fact the RNC=GOP is the Party, and they were/are fine with infecting their attendees that come from all over the country.
