Jackson Confirmed To Garland’s Old Seat In Step Towards Potential Future SCOTUS Nomination

It’s not an issue, it was a casual observation. Sheesh, lighten up.

It is just maddening that one jowly little man can muck up the gears of our government by simply giving a press conference. I really hope #moscowmitch is out of (majority) power forever.

I’ve come across more than a few liberals who appear to care more about preserving their self-image of being supremely moral, ethical and noble than about protecting the rights and interests of the people who are allegedly served by those moral and ethical codes. I.e. “I’d rather die than compromise my principles!”. Which is not only dishonest, and they’d be the first to turn tail or surrender their precious principles if it really did come to that, but what about all the people who might also die, or suffer greatly, for their stupid, stupid, selfish principles?

Principles are ideals, to strive for, not restraints to be bound by. We have agency and we are obliged to employ it as befits the situation. Imagine if Anne Frank’s hosts had been honest with Nazis who demanded to know if they were harboring Jews, because it was more important to be honest than to save a life. And we’re not even talking about committing any moral or ethical transgressions here let alone crimes, but simply being pragmatic and realistic and not inhabiting an imaginary moral and ethical utopia of their own devising. It’s fucking narcissistic, and selfish. Sometimes you have to step off Mount Olympus.

Are we so sure? There are only 50 Dems (2 of whom aren’t Dems but caucus with them), and 2 of them aren’t reliable votes for anything, Sinema and Manchin. I can see either refusing to support her because it was too partisan, because they’re drama queens and attention you know whats and love playing the spoiler. I can even see Manchin bolting to the GOP, claiming that he doesn’t recognize his former party anymore and they were so mean to him. I think Dems would have a better chance in 2023–assuming that all these voter fraud laws won’t pass and be used to steal the senate.

I mean I understand why she wanted to keep going - but we all would have been better off had she resigned during Obama’s presidency. That said, none of us really anticipated the way in which McConnell would distort the USSC advice and consent process in the case of Merrick Garland. So, who really knows how it would have worked out.
