“Close up shop”?? Under a better AG, Smith would be going gangbusters. Get 'er done! Or as much as possible! He’s got over two months before the hammer falls, maybe more, if the Felon Insurrectionist doesn’t “fire” him on Day One.
Agree that the report must be leaked, spread far and wide, published in all foreign media (because American media is now too cowardly to do so).
Disagree that there is any chance of a trial for trump. SCOTUS will prevent all prosecutions of the benefactor who appointed them. He’ll never be held accountable. What Jack Smith can do is at least make sure all the crimes are known. Get the facts out there before they are buried forever like the Mueller Report.
Nothing. We have zero power. The posture of “do something!!!” and “how dare you do nothing!!!” while totally ignoring the glaring structural disempowerment we’re suffering just plays right into the fascists’ hands. There’s nothing they CAN do but talk, complain, scream, try to build outrage and backlash, organize and unite. That’s it. We are going to be 100% excluded from governance of this country until people wake the fuck up and realize that spending all their fucking time and all their fucking energy on building hate and resentment in every way they can towards the ONLY people working to fix things, just makes them the fascists’ best friends.
“But my unicorns.” FUCK. YOUR. FUCKING. UNICORNS. We have more important things to worry about, like surviving military occupations of our cities and rampant ethnic cleansing and widespread criminalization of dissent.
Used to be said that governmentcannot be run like a business. Then came trump with his DOGE dept …a dept to make departments run like a business. To be overseen by a guy (trump) with multiple business failures on his record and run by Musk who’s TweeterX is rapidly failing.
Yes, but it makes it clear as day TSF wants authoritarian power.
If the GQP Senate goes along with that, then I’d think it’s safe to say that they’re onboard with his (and, then, their party’s) ambitions.
And that’s the saddest outcome of all. They are totally lost, completely confused about how they got here. They’ll still be angry and hateful, because it’s all they have left. The propaganda-driven MSM will be happy to suggest scapegoats from among the other vulnerable communities.
My daughter is a draftsman who works in an architectural office full of ex-military bros who are ecstatic over the election and, get this, seem to be especially happy about RFK because he is so “jacked” at the age of 70 and must really know a lot about health. She said it was hard to hold on to her sanity.
Then I saw some of Trump’s picks, but when I got to Hegseth, a FOX News host, for Secretary of Defense, I almost crumpled. Once Trump and his cronies get going well on Project 2025, within a year from now we will not be able to trust any of the data coming out of our government. We will be told that all crime is done by immigrants, that Trump’s tariffs have created the strongest economy ever, and that no part of government has ever run as well as it is under Trump.
Imagine if Trump had had control of all meaningful data during Covid and what we would have heard. As an authoritarian he will move quickly to control all information, and the majority of the populace will lap it up despite all evidence to the contrary. We will be given scapegoats for everything that is wrong.
Yep, and when prices and inflation go bananas, the scapegoats will be the industries where prices are rising…and the Defense Production Act will get invoked to unnaturally interfere in the market to cook the data. The same people who raged about plans to rein in price gouging will instantly be screeching about price gouging and the need to use a heavy handed federal gov’t to take over those businesses/industries in order to bring prices down despite the existence of real inflationary pressures (as opposed to the deliberate overreaction to waning inflationary pressures we witnessed over the past 4 years, which has been basically proven to be a price gouging profit margins game). Then they will claim “See, tariffs don’t cause inflation.”
The Stalinist purges of the Russian military were my association.
Two possibilities here:
We know from experience that they’re neither incisive nor deep thinkers – the result could simply be governed by their short term goals (ETA: control of all parts of the government.)
