She has enough corroboration from years before Platner announced his candidacy to be credible. And who cares if she was in an on and off relationship with him? Rape is rape.
There is no “not so bad” context for it. Hell, Ivana Trump said Donald raped her in her divorce proceedings. Should we not care about that? FYI, marital rape is illegal and considered a crime in all 50 states.

Woman tells him what he doesn’t remember, breaks off all contact after. 2 years later, tells friend to stay away from him because of incident, with no evidence of any personal gains. 3 years after that, talks to media after rapist gets Senate nomination. Still no evidence of financial gain.
Goes public with the story two weeks before maximum effect. If she wanted ‘maximum effect’ she’d have dropped this when it was too late to put someone else on the ballot.
Has the paper trail to back her story up. Isn’t seeking any criminal charges because she appears to think he wasn’t in control of his own actions at the time.
And your recommendation?
Literally attack the victim who has corroborating evidence.

She may be credible. And he may be innocent. And they did have a two year relationship. Did it end with rape or did it end as simply an affair where he stayed with his wife? But why bother with all the possibilities when rape gets all the clicks.
Why bother acknowledging the evidence when scolding the woman is always your first move?

A claim of rape is not evidence. Texting to a friend about her ‘rape’ is not evidence. It’s a serious charge which can result in serious jail time.
Can we proceed carefully?
It is not physical evidence. It is corroborating evidence that she isn’t just making the story up on the spot.
If she presses charges, which she’s shown no inclination toward doing. As I said in my initial reply, her handling of this has been almost fucking saintly in how she’s avoided trying to crucify him for it.
Nor have the majority of voices saying that, in order to avoid this issue doing irreparable harm to efforts to replace Collins, he’s got to step aside, called for him to be charged with anything. Instead, most people seem to accept that he was in a really dark place, and did shit he shouldn’t have done, but he appears to have gotten medical treatment for the underlying PTSD. That doesn’t mean the issue goes away, though.
