Iranian Foreign Minister Accuses Trump Of ‘State Terrorism’ Over Soleimani Assassination

Well, he’s not wrong

Goldberg poses the question of ‘where does this go’, suggesting it could only go to disaster.

However, if the Iranians were really smart, this event can elevate their status in the world by not overreacting and showing Trump, and NOT the U. S., to be the fool.

Trump has refused to let the Iranian Foreign Minister to come the UN on a previous planned trip to speak, and now to protest the killing of Suleimani. There are ways to speak to the U.N. remotely and the U.N. should set this up.

Trump is in deep shit here and now around the world. No one, including Israel, is supporting him.

I do worry about what he might do, particularly if North Korea decides to get in his face.

Keep your eye on Trump and how he responds to the earthquakes in Puerto Rico. If he acts ‘presidential’, we will know he is losing his mind.

Right out of the playbook that started World War I.

How many Americans know that we interfered in Iranian affairs in the early 50s, had their democratically elected leader deposed and installed the notorious Shah of Iran to rule as dictator, all to favor our oil companies? Every time the memory of this horrid event starts to heal, we take a rusty scalpel and re-open the wound. We continue to make their terrible leaders look good by comparison. With Trump, we have forfeited any remaining moral high ground we might have been able to claim.

Who are we that we get to murder sovereign citizens of another country without benefit of trial or any kind of process? The reckoning on this is going to be ugly. We are all going to pay for our inability to correct the grievous error made in 2016 when the electoral college gave us a president who was and is totally unfit for any office you can name, much less the presidency.

Yes, and I hesitate to use the word “assassination.” I think a case could be made that he was a legitimate target.

HOWEVER, it was stupid and ill-thought and will very likely cause more deaths than if he were left alone. To quote Al Swearengen from Deadwood, “You can’t cut the throat of every cocksucker whose character it would improve.”

If I were living / working in a Trump-branded property, I’d be damned nervous, even if I were dimwitted enough to have gotten myself in those circumstances in the first place…

Yes, but what if a non state sponsored revenge terrorist attack against Americans takes place. Trump and his sycophants will treat it as if it were ordered or at least inspired by the Iranian government.
Trump needs dead Americans, military or civilian to get this disaster in high gear so he can retaliate with a massive military response. Then it’s 2003 all over again. Recall GW Bush’s approval rating went from 55% to 90% after 9-11.

I’m surprised, although maybe I should not be, at how few voices are speaking the nuanced line of “probably legal, definitely justified, almost certainly stupid”.

Well put.

If WE had one, Trump would be gone from power this evening (and more than likely never would have been elected in the first place). A lot of basement-living twenty-somethings have never had to think about consequences of Trumpism. Voting for them rarely gets to the level of participation of FOX-addled Granny and Gramps

With an actual Draft (which the GOP will never allow) dodging bullets (or worse) would not be something like Call-of-Duty-type video-games.

It would be for real.

Also pilots dropping bombs from 30000ft are brave, drivers of truck bombs are cowards.

Trump was apparently taken into a room and shown options for retaliation, with Soleimani’s extrajudicial killing offered as an outlier to frame actual plausible responses. Big mistake.

Nervous? After Don Jr posted that image of him with the AR-15 and the Crusader symbols on it he may now think it wasn’t such a great idea after all.

Sadly, you may be correct, but Junior’s war has worn us out, and I don’t think even Trump’s supporters want us to start all over again. Trump ran on ending the ‘endless’ wars.

I would be surprised if little Kim did not do something to get in his face. This is the perfect opportunity for them to make Spanky look weak or make him go nuts with crisis overload. The North is usually very good at recognizing and exploiting moments like this and they have obviously been trying to yank Spankys chain for a while now.

I read this morning that Mattis never gave Trump that option in the briefings. But, the adults are no longer there.

True, Mattis was always irked when Trump would dry hump the flag.

I hope and think that Iran is talking to our (former) allies to achieve just that outcome.
