Iowa Dem Party Chair Resigns | Talking Points Memo

Be warned … the easily offended will swoop down on you like flying monkeys on Toto!

Damn, why can we cover up campaign shenanigans like the GoP does???

Is there no one left on the Left who knows the fractious history of the Labor Movement and remembers how to balance competing interests of skilled and unskilled labor?

Atrocious.

And I don’t mean just the spelling of “horde.”

You’ve just described Iowa and in fact any state not on the Eastern Seaboard or the Left Coast which has the votes Dems need.

Happened to me in and industry with three labor groups on the property and in the end my employer declared bankruptcy so it was free to restructure its stated obligations to their employees including pension benefits.

And don’t forget TPM’s own John Judis gravely pronouncing that Elizabeth Warren’s candidacy is ovah…kaput…after one single solitary primary

The takeaway from Iowa debacle aside from not using untested app(s)

= BEWARE of TRUMP TROLLS!

Trump Trolls/RepucbliCONS will lie, cheat, steal and sabotage the Democratic Party candidates to win the election!

I’ve toyed with the notion that the first 4 states should be chosen by lot. Perhaps order the states by % Democratic vote, split into 4 groups and take one from each group.

In terms of neglect, there are any number of cities that would like to go first.

But the most important thing – for them and for you – is that the Democratic nominee be someone who can be elected – which means convincing enough states to win the Electoral College. Here Iowa’s relative traditionalism is an advantage … If the prospective nominee can make it through Iowa, the candidate can make it through the more conservative states required.

A different advantage that a small state has is that a candidate does not have to be independently wealthy to win. An appealing candidate can showcase themselves and attract enough support to campaign elsewhere.

The problem I have with Iowa is they do not allow absentee votes in their caucus. I had a friend in Dubuque who couldn’t wait to caucus for Sanders but he got sick with the flu and couldn’t go. He wasn’t alone. Swing and graveyard shift workers have to choose between going or losing a day’s pay. Elderly in nursing homes can’t attend. People with eldercare or childcare issues couldn’t go. People without transportation couldn’t go. And there are others locked out of the process.

A small price to pay for “tradition”!

(Or so I am told.)

Actually, bikers (as in on bicycles) like Iowa in July - the RAGBRAI.

A separate issue. Tom Perez is the one who should resign. He insisted Iowa adopt the bull shit system that didn’t work so there would be instant results. Like that worked. It was Perez’s arrogance that resulted in the cluster.

Perez, you should be next.

Even NV,SC,NH and IA, in that order, would be better.

Thanks for that reminder.

Link? That’s probably not true. Perez/ DNC did put pressure on them not to adopt a virtual long distance voting mechanism that woukd have been wide open to hacking and that did not leave a paper trail.

It’s a real ‘please clap’ moment

I agree except for that New Hampshire law that always puts themselves first in the nation. So pair it with a more representative state, not too big or expensive and one less lilly white.

No disagreement whatsoever, I fully believe caucuses should be a thing of the past. Having been through them, they can be a lot of fun to be in the middle of, though.
