'“You don’t really many times in your career get too many chances to ask for a presidential pardon,” he [attorney for Rhodes] added."

There’s just so much shit in this sentence.

Anyhow, here’s Piper, who won’t need a pardon, just a serious shower.

He will pardon every last one of them, then direct DOJ to charge the cop who shot Ashli Babbitt with murder.

Are “clemency” and a pardon really synonomous? Obviously I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve always thought of clemency as “mercy” resulting, usually, in commuting a sentence down to time served. You’re done, move on.

These guys want an actual pardon, expunging the crime from their records. And why wouldn’t Trump do it just to piss off “deep state” of the DOJ and owning all the Libs yet again???

At least he got to check off a bucket list item… *&^%$#@!

No. Clemency gets you out of your sentence, but the conviction remains on the books. Pardon gets you out of both sentence and the conviction.

Of course, they were loyal to him.

Thank You, @txlawyer for the clarification. It was bugging me in the article that they seemed to be used interchangeably.

Trump says he plans to grant pardons on a case-by-case basis. We know what that means!

This is just beyond depressing.

We’re now a nation that rewards criminals.

I never want to hear another American talk about ‘law and order’.

As bad as it is for me, I cannot begin to imagine what this is like for the thousands of people who work for the DOJ; to have everything you stood for and worked towards turned on its head.

Oh, puleeze. The man who is planning to prosecute all of his “enemies” is whining about political prosecutions? It’s like we are living in a nightmare world, where this man has zero responsibility for his actions, but is going to be assuming the highest office in the land. There is something very wrong here.

For some reason trump has somehow managed to avoid any real consequences for his actions going back to the begining of his career more than 50 years ago. Yes there have been fines. One is of stupendous size and I do not recall its status at the moment. But he has a rap sheet and convictions that should have landed his ample ass in prison. Yet he avoids comeuppance. AND IT IS VERY VERY WRONG. He’s a convicted criminal who in about 2 months will be president. This cries out to law makers that it’s wrong to allow felons to run for an office

Hey, dopes- Don’t you know loyalty for Trump runs in only ONE direction…it wouldn’t surprise me if he leaves them all holding the bag - it’s been the pattern of his life.

In a can? Unthinkable!!

There are no longer any norms it would appear, only the will of King Trump; precedent, common law vitiated, statutory law next no doubt.

Damn!

Trump does not need them anymore, he doesn’t need to court the people who want to have these jackals pardoned, and the majority of Americans are against them being pardoned. It is very possible that Trump decides that it would be too politically damaging to pardon them and leaves them in jail. I think the chance of that increases if the reaction after Biden pardons Hunter (or even just grants him clemency) is a big story. Trump might be worried about wrongfooting the start of his term and hold back on the pardon to avoid an even bigger reaction, and then just forget about it.

Sure would be excellent karma if Trump abandoned his insurrectionists. I do think it’s more likely that he will follow through and blanket pardon all of them, but there’s a real chance he just doesn’t care anything about them and forgets them.
