Well from the emails I get, I am beginning to think all of this is just to raise money. Oh the GOP is against this can you send $5.
The nightmare scenario is that Manchin and Sinema react to democrats pressuring them by switching parties. This immediately gives McConnell and Republicans control again. There is nothing to stop these two from leaving the Party as they have massive egos and are impervious to shame. Biden knows this and is helpless make/ convince them to do anything.
I take issue with this. For all we know, that’s exactly what’s been happening.
Exactly! When they pull the lever on this, it’ll be quick in order to deny Republicans enough time to launch an effective offensive. Also, I wish they’d strip out the stuff about election finance and make that a stand-alone bill. Force them to vote against taking money out of politics. Force them to vote against it again and again.
Increasingly Desperate Progressives Beg
Thanks TPM, that really helps. All or nothing on both infrastructure bills, take a victory lap and move on to voting rights legislation. Stay focused, control the narrative and don’t let the media direct the story line. .
The siren call of failure from the jaws of victory will prove to be too irresistible for Democrats.
The ego probably belongs to Manchin. Sinema is a Performance Artist…and both have been talked to/are being talked to/will be talked to.
Joe also probably has some things up his sleeve I won’t talk about here.
But, again, the behind-closed-doors situation is what we are left with**…and dealing with the GOP (which makes organized crime look like Boy Scouts) we had better hold our cards tightly.
The GOP is worse than organized crime: millions of so-called “law abiding” people cheer every dirty trick they play.
**the SAME kind of behind-closed-doors situation that had Pelosi thoroughly handing it to the so-called “centrist Dems”…after Gloom, Incorporated was predicting the opposite.
Joe also probably has some things up his sleeve I won’t talk about here.
I’m sure he does. Been at this game for a long time - and now he finally has the power to do something about it.
Could not agree more. I just wonder if it’s not already too late. I hate to be that pessimistic, but the Manchin/Sinema beast seems to have eaten all hope.
hear! hear!
And don’t forget the trickle down effect of having babies woman can’t afford. Has Texas allocated more funding for the state to be involved in caring for this children, in their foster system, adoption systems, in their schools, and what religious partnerships have they lined up already so the state can offload the hands on stuff to them?
And thus everything I wrote above will happen in more than one state.
Wait a minute buster are you telling me that results of 2A don’t come before stupidity? How can this be. Are we not America?
I agree. But I think the first thing should be non-partisan redistricting. It has “non-partisan” in it so Manchin should love it. Get that through and, in pretty short order, you build your majorities and can pass all the other good government stuff. (Also, it’s peopular)
Good point and you’re probably right: not much chance we’ll get a window into the making of this sausage whatever winds up in it. Maybe that’s a good thing but the time in-between is a little nerve wracking.
I think with Manchin it’s ego in the sense that he’s more concerned with being re-elected than doing what’s right and hasn’t yet accepted that it’s time to hang up his cleats and do what’s best for the country. Also, we should never forget that his home state was one of the trumpiest states in 2020. Plus, I do think the man is a classic attention whore. The one that truly irritates me, though, is Sinema. Absolutely no one takes her seriously. Not the press. No one. Not one person believes she has legitimate concerns. I had such high hopes for her, but she’s completely blown her chance of ever being more than probably a one-term senator. As a woman the exact same age, I’m just disgusted and embarrassed. She makes us all look bad.
Not to mention Child Protective Services.
Republican governors with aspirations to be President are not only hastening the deaths of the adults in their states but killing children too.
I also believe that something will be done. Biden actually telegraphed this during a press conference. It was toward the end, a shouted question about nixing the filibuster and he said something along the lines of “blowing everything up” in the Senate if that happened. When you look at the timing–according to Schumer–for introducing new Voting Rights bill, I beleive Joe Biden really, really wants the bi-partisan bill and the reconciliation safely put to bed before “blowing everything up.”
But then, I’m an optimist.
Well they’re just making room for increase in children that their abortion chicanery will produce.

They could do that and exchange their headline role in Democratic legislating for a distant also ran position amongst the reactionaries.
I’m not sure their self-importance would allow such a trade off.
as a “baffling” ambivalence on the voting rights issue.
Same thought: WTF is he thinking? He has a chance of emerging as one of our great presidents and he walks around with his thumb up his ass.
