There are photos and footage from inside, and Dems should release ones with Republicans cowering behind chairs or lying next to walls and things taking cover and release one every time a senator says he was just relaxing in his designated seat while the mob was yelling outside the doors. I don’t remember any Republican senators refusing to go to the safety corridors and instead walking out to meet the mob.

My first moment like that was in the Bargello with Donatello’s David. I couldn’t believe he was right there in all his cocky self-satisfaction.
To see the art (the late) Professor Scully (history of the Italian Renaissance) had introduced us to was pretty darn fabulous, and the historical context made them super meaningful, but the “Little David” in Florence and Giorgio’s “Tempest” in Venice stopped me in my tracks with emotion.

Yeah I took a year of Renaissance Art History in undergrad and I loved it so much it was like breathing. It took a long time before I got to see those things for real but I was stopped dead in my tracks over and over. I hadn’t realized Botticelli’s Primavera takes up a whole wall until I walked into the room where it hangs and just about fainted because it literally took my breath.
The Duomo was closed for work the first time I was in Florence which was a huge disappointment because I desperately wanted to see Donatello’s Mary Magdalene. I finally got to see her the last time we were in Italy, in '19. She is so powerful and so incredible. whoa
It’s a joy to see those things that you’ve studied, isn’t it? That country is relentless if you love art and beauty and history. hahaha It won’t let you go and there isn’t enough time in one lifetime to see all there is.

Years ago I developed a particular interest in still lifes and especially liked an 18th-century guy named Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin. And once during a hectic visit to the Met, I took a short break from the elder-care side of the day and went looking for some pieces of his I knew were there. And then boom, there they were, and they were so familiar and valued I suddenly misted up. It was like bumping into a dear friend unexpectedly, far from home.

In particular I’d like to see video of Ron Johnson legging it out of there as fast as his skinny shanks would take him so as not to encounter those patriotic police-lovers surging in howling for blood in a way that caused him no concern at all.

It will definitely inform their politics into the future, but it remains to be seen what US politics will look like in the future. If the Republicans are (as I believe they are) on the cusp of an irreversible disintegration, it’s difficult to see what looms ahead.
We are living during a substantial socio-demographic transformative event. Today’s youth, by a vast majority, see no part of themselves in the “values” espoused by the Republican Party.
The rejection is near total.

By my estimates, about 25-30% of this country is batshit crazy scared to death of a black revolution, by eight years of a black president, and now by BLM. Women and gays are asserting themselves. And these “patriots” are ready and willing to throw away democracy itself, just to keep the whites in power.
It’s really that simple.
