‘Neither My Conscience Nor Common Sense Will Allow Me to Stop an Election’ South Carolina on Tuesday joined the outlier southern states that will not redraw their lines to snuff out Black voting power before the 2026 midterms.  Twelve Republicans in the state Senate joined Democrats on a procedural vote that killed the bill for…

“We pass this map, it is going to stand for the proposition that a legislature can outsource its obligation to the federal government.”
–Sen. Tom Davis (R)

The Senator is right. It begs the question: why would a Republican even think to do that?

given the DeSantis-stocked and rabidly right-wing Florida Supreme Court.

How can a man look at himself in the mirror and say, “I stuffed a court. Therefore, I can do what most people object to.”

What does one do with such an achievement?

“We pass this map, it is going to stand for the proposition that a legislature can outsource its obligation to the federal government, it can truncate its obligations to proceed in good faith, it can do all of these things,” said Sen. Tom Davis (R) on the Senate floor. “I don’t want that infection to spread, I don’t want that infection to spread to other parts of the country, I especially don’t want South Carolina to be the reason that it spreads.”

So Trump is now a social disease?

Worse: “I can do what the law says I’m not allowed to do.” Further: “I can subvert the will of a majority of Florida voters.”

DeSantis is a lame duck, so what does he care.

I am still wondering how all this gerrymandering is going to impact a wave election. Damn I wish the good old Democratic party was alive an well.

Paxton wins in TX. Dump endorsed last week after late polls showed him ahead. Dump will take credit. He will disavow his fellow scumbag if he loses to Talarico in November.

ETA. At this point, 64% in, it’s almost two to one Paxton. Texas definitely likes its scumbags.

ETA2. There is now another rethug senator who owes him nothing. If not less.

“While we would appreciate the opportunity to engage in serious discussions, the invitation was provided with less than one business day’s notice with no agenda,” 24 attorneys general wrote in a letter to Vance dated Tuesday.

Were these Democratic attorneys general also invited to Don Jr.'s wedding with just one day’s notice?

I won’t be surprised if the gerrymandering backfires in many districts.

For an honorable man, the answer would be “my God, what have I done?” followed by a single gunshot.

For governor Putz-In-Boots, the answer is “heh heh heh.”

There a portion of us that do. In general, Paxton is recognized as a scum bag. But he is playing the machine. Special interests, money, well off to wealthy, white and of course just general joe blow fellow scumbags.

He has become his own personal Vietnam.

I’m not in Texas, and I don’t pretend to understand Texas, but is this as good a result for Talarico as I think it is?

I stand by my archaic usage.

STDs were commonly known as venereal diseases : Veneris is the Latin genitive form of the name Venus , the Roman goddess of love. Social disease was another euphemism. Public health officials originally introduced the term sexually transmitted infection , which clinicians are increasingly using alongside the term sexually transmitted disease in order to distinguish it from the former.

I don’t know. I feel like it is, but I will go with what @txlawyer says.

For my gut, Paxton is spoiled swill that should stick in the craw of Republicans, not as a candidate but as a person. They are buying something different with him.
