Happy holidays everyone! Looks like 2025 might be worse than 2020, and that is saying something. Well, to all my fellow travelers on this site let’s just hope the midterms come quickly and aren’t as big a disappointment as November 5th. I guess we’ll just have to keep on keeping on but hopefully some nice things happen for us in the meantime.

I’m not sure it’s people, per se. Money is the root of all evil, but I think the threat is more accurately unfettered capitalism. In a finite ecosystem, the accumulation of more at an increasing rate is only self-destructive.

Excellent, but you left out one part that I think is important.
Trump will be placing into positions of power and control people who are not fit to have those positions. After his first win in 2016 we then got the likes of Boebert, MTG, and others that rode his propaganda to Congress. And ever since then more unfit, unsuitable folks have been elected to Congress.
Trump is like a Johnny Appleseed of spreading his wacko authoritarianism in Congress and now in within the Federal Gov’t as a whole. I wonder how long it will take to rid us of this infestation?

Een if it is a business decision this could cost them more than the suit ever could. Journalists are only as good as their word. This makes them look like they lied. And that is not good. It is the same for Morning Joe and the trip to Trump Palace. How much did that cost them? 40% of their audience? Ratings matter in that business. I think there is more to it than the usual feeding of the alligator in the hopes he will eat you last.

We’ve gone from legendary journalists and brave truth tellers like Edward R. Murrow standing up to the likes of Joe McCarthy to ABC News cowardly settling this lawsuit by donating to the TCF library. At one time these media organizations were run by people, many of whom were WWII veterans, which obviously impacted their worldview where they would not have kowtowed to the likes of a Trump.

There’s a lot of discussion/justification of ABC’s “business decision”. However, the alleged offense came from what was putatively a NEWS program. Not just disnified entertainment; first amendment “freedom of the press” journalism.
The corporation should have been defending itself and Steph on that basis, not just folding and paying off, to make sure the shareholders stayed fat. ABC no longer has any legitimate right to do “news” anymore. They’ve shown that they are too cowardly, too buck-focused.
