I have a wonder… if Alito himself leaked his opinion to see if it raised enough commotion to affect the election. If so, a less severe opinion will come out to lessen the effect. For now.

Every state that has lost population and Congressmen to rightist, abortion banning states, should invite pregnant women to move there with their L&D expenses paid. Everyone who wants to adopt in those states should then get their health insurance covered by Medicaid.

Forced pregnancy and forced birth is an unfunded mandate.
I think that codifying Roe can be done w/o filibuster threat as the repeal has clear budget impact on medicaid. Probably should throw universal birth control coverage on the pile. Think of the savings.

Anyway I think having read some of the glosses on this Draft Opinion that the Dems should marry up Abortion with Privacy with Right to Contraception.
Lots of people genuinely feel not-great about abortion, but highlighting how the Anti Abortion reactionaries are in fact also gunning for Contraception and Right to Privacy and you really broaden the rhetorical base and get some extra leverage.

I’ve also wondered if Roberts caused the leak, in an attempt to get Sammy to tone it down. If he’s told Sammy, “Son, you’re going cause a real shit-storm with this. You need to back it off a little,” and Sammy hasn’t back off much at all. Maybe, in that case, Roberts would feel that giving Sammy a taste of the shit-storm was in order.
In any event, absent a canary-trap in the draft, they will never find out where the leak came from. The reporters are going to protect that source like Woodward and Bernstein protected Deep Throat.

I refer to her as justice brood sow. The part of the draft opinion apparently written by her seems very smug and elitist and not understanding about how peoples lives are. “Women have so many more choices now”. “Companies have paid leave”. Swell then why is she part of a conservative judicial movement to undermine those successes that empower women.

Alito compares Roe to Plessy, claiming he’s “liberating” zygotes and foetuses. As Adam Serwer responds, he’s actually taking away the freedom of women to decide whether to give birth. As Alito should know, tho’ he wouldn’t give a damn if he does know, the “liberated” foetuses in a significant number of cases will now be free to bring about its mother’s death, which may also entail its own death. If it does make it into the world as a live birth, at that point, as far as Alito’s concerned, fuck it. It’s on its own.
As Adam Serwer also said way way back in 2016, “The cruelty is the point.”

Justice Handmaid’s Tale didn’t write any of that draft. It’s entirely a product of Alito’s chambers. Even when other judges request changes, the actual revisions are all handled by the chambers the opinion is coming from.
