Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) accused the Trump administration of trying to sabotage COVID-19 testing in a statement obtained by TPM, as the federal government moves to let support lapse for two testing sites in the state.
Ah, it’s the old “we’re incompetent so we didn’t think anyone would care if we stopped doing something that we suck at” defense again, is it?
Here’s what I don’t get…given all of the money appropriated for COVID by the federal government, who is chomping at the bit to close these sites?? At the very least, let them remain for the sake of PR. Which then makes clear what happens when the federal govt. messaging - as presented by Trump - makes a move like this so suspect. People simply can’t trust the feds at this moment…so long as the gasbag undermines the govt. everyday! They have set their own trap…they are fools!
Assistant Secretary Brett Giroir, who said in a Tuesday evening press release that governors of all five states affected by the lapse in federal support “agreed that it was the appropriate time to transition out of the original 13 sites and into the thousands of new testing options.”
Some of those present claim that during Secretary Giroir’s conference call to the governors they could hear a woman’s voice saying “At the tone, the time will be 100 pm”
Giroir has said that the sites were “antiquated” and “inefficient,” and that HHS has worked to ensure that local communities could lose federal support for the sites without losing overall testing capacity.
So who is Giroir talking to that isn’t talking to the Governors? Who has the private contract with the labs and the people contacting people with their results?
Exactly! The ad writes itself: “Trump thinks testing makes him look bad. But when he makes sure his staff can get tested multiple times a day while the rest of the country could drop dead of COVID as far as he cares, that makes him look a lot worse.”
The bullcrap would sound a whole lot more plausible if the spokescritter could name any of the spiffy non-antiquated wonderful new options. Including locations and hours and prices. Because if those new options existed all that information would have been available at least a week ago.
