IL Dem Senator Apologizes For Fake Trump Assassination Photo

Following swift bipartisan backlash, a Democratic state senator in Illinois apologized over the weekend after photos of two men posing for a mock assassination of President Trump during his fundraiser were posted on Facebook

Well, that was pretty stupid. Jokes about assassinating Presidents never go over well. I’d ask “what was he thinking?” but clearly he wasn’t.

It’s not appropriate when either side does it. I’m glad he disavowed it quickly.

Idiot.

Some things you don’t joke about. This is one of them.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
At least they should be punished like Republicans who have done it

Might be a good time to check your Facebook security settings so photos that you’re tagged in don’t automatically appear on your Facebook timeline. Get a notification and have someone check them first. And if you’re already doing that, fire whoever let it get posted and kick yourself in the ass a few times.

As for the people who posed for and took the pictures and the woman who tagged the state Senator and posted them - not helpful, not funny, not appropriate.

Indeed: lock down your data, folks:

On-topic: could be either internal stupidity or external ratfucking–in the coming elections, let us bear both in mind.

Ummmm… So the Senator didn’t appear in any of the photos, so no reason to believe he knew anything like that happened (selfies with supporters are common, so just because he was in a picture next to the guy elsewhere is no proof of anything), it was uploaded by some unknown third party and he was tagged.

And this is supposed to be a scandal about him?!?

Doesn’t appear to have anything whatsoever to do with him.

ANYONE can tag ANYONE on Facebook. You can only choose whether that appears in your timeline or not, and nothing here suggests that that happened.

Dumb. Just stupid.

Of course, it was perfectly fine when a Trump supporter, during the election, could foam at the mouth and call for Hillary’s execution. I mean, after all, Benghazi!!!:

And, of course, a Trump’s supporter’s endless calls for the death of President Obama didn’t prevent him from being invited to the White House by Fat Ass:

I wonder how many apologies he had to make to people because they were pissed the photograph wasn’t real.

What? Too soon?

True, but we must remember there are probably both good and bad people when it comes to the issue of mock Presidential assassinations.

There are good people on both sides of the Grassy Knoll!

Indeed. For all we know this was a Segretti/Rove type of rat-f*ck.

Sandoval himself didn’t do anything wrong. Whoever took and posted the pictures did, but there’s no reason to think they had any relationship to Sandoval.

Let’s not “both sides” this until an actual Democrat endorses violence in the way Trump casually does on a regular basis.

If the individual pictured is a staffer or volunteer, they should be terminated immediately.”

“And if the individual isn’t a staffer or volunteer, I will continue to bloviate about this facebook photo anyway as a way of distracting from the obvious parallels to my preferred president’s ongoing encouragement of right-wing violence at his fucking political rallies.”

Yeah, I kept looking for that in the story. It’s a logical extension of the question at hand - was this done at/around/with the consent of Sandoval?

Even I, who despise Facebook and stopped using it 2 years ago, know you can tag anyone.

In the absence of any evidence that it was, there’s nothing there.

What, if someone tagged of a fake Trump mock-executing a Dem, people would call for him to apologize on the poster’s behalf?

Hmmm, I’m still waiting for an apology from Turtle for making a graveyard for Dems.

“The incident that took place is unacceptable,” Illinois Sen. Martin Sandoval, who represents a district that includes the southwest neighborhoods of Chicago, said in a statement, according to local media. “I don’t condone violence toward the President or anyone else. I apologize that something like this happened at my event.”

Witness the differences between Democratic and Republican lawmakers. A Republican would play victim of media hyperventilation on the issue, without condemning the act. The Democrat strongly denounces the act, and goes further to denounce all violence against anyone. Typically, Republicans also cry foul at the Democrat’s apology and condemnation.
