If Biden’s Corporate Tax Offer Isn’t A Feint, Then It’s A Massive Concession

He knows what he’s doing. He’s showing Manchin that he could offer literally anything to the Republicans and they’re still not going to deliver votes, so all this bipartisanship is just a fantasy.

Idk, seems like a good move to me. Republicans are refusing to vote on anything and the stance they are taking now is they want certain corporations to get away with paying no taxes at the expense of others. It’s just a very easy position to attack.

I don’t think those are question marks. Maybe middle fingers.

I really really really don’t understand the compulsion to negotiate with this mob of republicans. They’re never going to vote for it, no matter what demands of theirs you meet. They’re playing for time and outright lying. The republicans know it, we here in the TPM commentariat and across the country see it – it’s painfully, ludicrously obvious. What is this dumb, dumb, dumb addiction to negotiating with these jackasses like it’s 1975?

It’s called Manchin and Sinema.

They keep Mr. Smith Goes to Washington running on loops in their offices, and believe that we live in a world where Republicans are reachable if only the Dems would be more accommodating.

That may well be true, but I can’t think of a single reason Manchin will care. Politically, he has nothing to gain, and everything to lose, by supporting his nominal party.

Exactly what I think, except for the Mr. Smith Goes to Washington part. I think it’s something either more cynical, or just plain stupid.

Ha! You can’t even say that right here in these forums without being attacked by a centrist mob!

Starting to think Manchin just likes whatever weird ideological stance he thinks he’s taking about “not destroying the government.” Meanwhile, he’s ensuring that Republicans destroy the government. Sinema, who the hell knows?

Well Joe spent a long time in the Senate and I rather think he understands the art of negotiating with that body. So I’m going to wait and see.

Frankly, they should call up Greenberg, get a nice underage girl or two, ensnare Manchin in kompromat and get on with things.

This is the closest I could come to matching “aviation geek” to “unicorn” – really, more of a narwhal – on short notice.

When I was growing up in Munich, this thing was sitting in the courtyard of the Deutsches Museum almost like a gate guard. Now it’s properly preserved indoors at the new flight-dedicated facility that they built out in Schleissheim.

Good news: Much more protected indoor exhibition space than they used to have in the main museum.

Bad news: While Oberschleissheim is a lovely place, it’s quite a bit more remote from the city center.

Compensating news: There are good historical reasons for the Schleissheim location.

But for aviation nerds, it’s well worth the trip. And if you like trains, so is the Verkehrsmuseum annex (which includes my favorite locomotive of all time). And there’s something at the old main museum for just about everyone.

He’s missing his chance to make a mark. He’s gaining nothing for his state by being this way. He’d likely lose his next election, but god damnit, this is his moment to make history and BE somebody instead of cowering for the sake of his damn job.

Does Joe Manchin know Mitch McConnell ?

I know WVA & KY aren’t as far apart as Maine & Hawaii, but still…

Or, run an ad campaign about his pharma CEO daughter raising the price of Epipens by 500% while paying out executive bonuses.

No contest under those conditions - Sinema.

No, we need him to stay in the caucus. It’s the difference of getting any judges appointed or none at all.

Just need the right kompromat to keep him in the party but quiet and compliant. Same with Sinema.

Well, such ideals are nice, but I see no evidence that Manchin shares any of them.
