Abbott failed.

He’s livid because he was given wrong information?

He’s got the time and inclination to wreck the supply chain, empower bounty hunters, but…

His police are stymied by locked doors? He didn’t see that coming? He didn’t ask???

Abbott has been a rolling disaster for the entire 7 1/2 years he’s been in office.

There have been six mass shootings in Texas during his mal-administration, and he has yet to offer even one vaguely appropriate solution to the problem.

We are 11 days away from The J6 Hearings.

One other reason is they know their voters care more about other things – blocking access to abortion, “owning” the libs, preventing commie socialism from turning the U.S. into a totalitarian nightmare by providing healthcare to its citizens and similar atrocities

Now you are just being cynical. (Cough)

New: Jan. 6 committee responds to House GOP members seeking to negotiate their subpoenas: “Leader McCarthy and other Members who have been served subpoenas are hiding behind debunked arguments and baseless requests for special treatment.”

…re the J6 (hate to be a harping-on-one-issue guy, but here it is):

These newsworthy things run in news cycles…which means that we basically have the next week to deal with (in which people will be looking–and making educated/uneducated guesses–at the next week)…

Which will come to the prepared and the unprepared.

And the tumult cannot be put back in the Lamp.

I took @mattinpa’s advice and passed on the video but when I heard about the bell my mind switched to GQP mode and heard the opening bell on Wall Street. Church bells never entered the picture.

Opening bell on Wall street IS their church bell.

Pretty sure "devolved "is a more useful term to characterize their trajectory.

Cruz is smiling and waving as his strongmen haul this guy away. Same thing happened to Beto (who didn’t even stand up straight the whole time he was meekly standing before Abbott). Seems to me these weak-lonely-lib being hauled away scenes just feed their authoritarian cravings

I can tell you the thing about it is how it’s sketchy, thrown-together, and poorly done for something that should have the greatest care taken with it because that’s you convey your respect and show you understand. It’s like when he called the widow of a service member killed while stationed in Africa, never used his name, said he knew what he signed up for but he supposes it’s still sad, all this kind of incredibly thoughtless and sloppy stuff. He should NEVER EVER be allowed to take part in any kind of memorial service, much less for slaughtered children. And whoever thought it was a good idea should go from PR into some sort of fast-food work.

I am in good company with my rant yesterday about Scalia, Heller and the 2nd Amendment:

Four years ago, when — as now — the nation was reeling from the horror of a mass school shooting, a retired Supreme Court justice suggested a radical solution: getting rid of the Second Amendment.

[Justice] Stevens said the amendment was adopted out of concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the states. “Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century,” he wrote.

Just the fact an organization that promotes and champions the weapons used to kill those children did this makes my skin crawl. Bad optics doesn’t begin to describe it.
