I can see a possibility of violent left wing protests if Trump wins an election.
Picture this: the initial election results look favorable to Harris. Trump’s camp claims election irregularities, particularly in closely contested states where Republicans are firmly in charge. The red state “investigates” the irregularity and takes actions that swings electoral college delegates from Harris to Trump, swinging the election in Trump’s favor. Or perhaps mail-in votes from a section of a state that votes heavily for Democrats are lost… and the state leaders say, “whoopsie, nothing we can do at this point. We can only go with the votes that we currently have”.
Either side will violently protest if they feel the election was stolen from them. The only difference is the left wing will have a far more accurate assessment on whether the other side stole the election.
THIS is what concerns me mightily. Right now it’s looking like Harris can win a legit election. Another Bush v Gore legal pretext for the SCOTUS to anoint rump scares me.
Protests would be fruitless.
Hey, I’m as progressive as they come, practically a Marxist. I have spent a WHOLE lot of time decrying the Fascist FBI and DOJ in through the 1990s, since the FBI starting harassing me for protests in the late 1960s and early 70s, and the DOJ’s overreach in 1993 at Waco, which killed an old friend of mine who was seeking a better life and ended up a follower of the Branch Davidians. They were absolutely no danger to our way of life.
Maybe at some time in the future, possibly when the FBI moves to a building that does not have the name of J. Edgar Hoover on it, and honestly rejects their legacy of bigotry, racism, and conservatism and jingoism, I might feel more kindly of them. The DOJ? Seems like they are crooked in both Democratic administrations, as well as ReThuglicans.
I have no doubt that right-wing provocateurs egged on by Flynn and Stone, will cause mass chaos and destruction if there are protests. They will be the ones setting fire to buildings etc and it will all be blamed on “the left.”
