How DOJ Was Poised To Stifle The IC IG’s Whistleblower Complaint | Talking Points Memo

Which is why this leak is so perfect for that package. Since it’s about a current and immediate threat, not some re-runs of old news from 2016, this is the one that has the perfect requirement to move very rapidly, because every day he remains in office is a continuation of that threat.

Whether the Senate starts breaking ranks, we’ll have to see, but this is looking like another genius move by Pelosi, push for impeachment by Thanksgiving, throw to the Senate to either cave or let him walk, either way it’s done by the end of the year.

" The Justice Department decided that what Trump was seeking on the call — an investigation into the family of political rival — did not constitute a thing of value under campaign finance law and thus an investigation into a campaign finance violation was not warranted."

Which is such utter batshit that Engel should be under bar investigation. Trump quite clearly put a price tag on it and set its value: $390M in foreign aid and the destruction of the biggest threat to his re-election.

When they did they go after John Mitchell, during or before…? I no longer remember.

Of course it was Barr’s - and he has 50 White House lawyers who will say he was eating a sandwich in the cafeteria when the complaint was killed.

On February 21, 1975, Mitchell , who was represented by the criminal defense attorney William G. Hundley, was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury and sentenced to two and a half to eight years in prison for his role in the Watergate break-in and cover-up,

The most chilling thing about this article is the reveal of how close they came to successfully burying the evidence. Much like the night watchman finding the tape on the door, sometimes the entire course of history hangs on a series of improbable events.

There are varying legal opinions as to whether the Senate is required to conduct a full trial once they’re presented impeachment articles by the House. I’ve seen some Constitutional scholars assert McConnell can avail himself of certain procedural moves, discretionary ploys he’s empowered to invoke as Senate leader, that would prevent a full vote of the body. Thus taking all the heat and shielding all other GOP Senators from having to take a position.

Yes, they can, but Fox/Sinclair/Breitbart deliberately obfuscate, conflate, and distort. But they do use logic to decide what to obfuscate, conflate, and distort.

Whichever way it goes is fine politically. If his caucus doesn’t stand up to him, Dems get to paint each and every one of them with the “Moscow” label.

But I doubt it gets that far, really think that we’re into the likely scenarios of MoscowMitch cutting a deal with Pelosi that allows Trump to walk on this stuff and some legal protections for his family in exchange for his resignation.

The problem for Barr is that, while lots of people are willing to do time for the Capo, fewer are willing to go down for the Capo’s underlings. If Dems take some off-camera testimony from Barr’s underlings, he will end up in jail for obstruction and perjury, either while Trump is in power or afterwards.
