How Butler Assassination Attempt Conspiracy Theories Became the New Dallas 1963

Why wouldn’t you expect it to be “pristine”? The bullet only grazed him.

Well, it appears that we’ve now got Schrödinger’s Ear, which was both blasted to kingdom come AND nicked by the merest of paper cuts.:face_with_raised_eyebrow::person_shrugging:t2:

Nobody claimed anything like that his ear was “blasted to kingdom come.” But it’s a free country, you can even believe the 2020 election was stolen if you want. Just know that you are impervious to objective evidence on this topic.

I agree with everything you have written. The shooter was a lone gunman, a disturbed individual who was a skilled shooter. The Secret Service botched their protection perimeter….obviously.

There was only one moment that seemed staged or just very weird, and that was Trump’s “triumphant” rise to a more upright body position with his fist raised, never seemed spontaneous to me.

Then again, all of his body language at his rallies seem weird and awkward as if performed by a bad actor. My assumption is that he has seen The Manchurian Candidate more than a few times, and was intrigued by the anticipated plot described by Eleanor Shaw played by Angela Lansbury, where her VP nominee candidate husband would defiantly lift the assassinated Presidential candidate on stage and be swept up in popularity.

Perhaps Trump practiced what dramatic moves he would do or say in the event of an unsuccessful assassination attempt. While almost everything he does seems dishonest, the MAGA base loves his high dramas. It worked. But that doesn’t mean anyone planned this near-miss shooting.

“Fight” rhetoric and invocations of violence have been a central part of trump’s political repertoire seemingly forever, stuff like “Gotta fight like hell or we won’t even have a country anymore.” It fires up the MAGA-rally audiences, as we saw most memorably on J6. I find it unsurprising that he would resort to it in the moments after an assassination attempt. The man knows nothing better than self-aggrandizement.

In the early 1950s my high school had a required course on logic and the critical evaluation of what we might read, hear or see. We learned how to evaluate books, newspaper and magazine articles, and all kinds of advertising, including TV ads. TV was relatively new at that time and the ads were quite unsophisticated.

Your perennial reminder:

“The North Dakota Crash.”

You just can’t make up stuff like this.

(Or, rather, you can!)

I think a lot of the conspiracy theories could be dismissed if Trump just released his medical records from the date of the incident. It’s not like the public is asking for evidence that he had a venereal disease. If he was shot in the right ear on the day in question, there should be scarring. And medical records. If this is all innocent, the medical records should be able to answer many of them. I think Trump likes being compared with JFK, in that there are conspiracy theories about him being shot.

I read an article discussing this recently that pointed out how the MSM and publishing industry systematically platformed conspiracy bullshit over anyone seriously interested in what happened in the years after the Warren Report (my parents had a copy).

There was an initial skeptical reaction from journalists who were then deeply involved reporting on the assassination and picked up on anything that seemed odd.

But then the press never assigned serious journalists to the subject ever again. When all the conspiracy hoaxes came out it was lifestyle reporters who were tremendously impressed by these paste-up fantasy jobs and who promoted them without a shred of skepticism.

The recent report, which you show to be a modern distortion along the same lines (mainstreaming conspiracy notions) – not one caring about establishing true things, continues this tradition.

And thereby show that it was just a tiny boo-boo that bled a little? Never.

Trump never releases any information about himself whatsoever. Everything is secret under NDAs or threat of lawsuit. That way he can make up whatever he likes.

(I suspect his medical report used the word “abrasion” which the doctor had to explain meant “a scratch”).
