The coronavirus has sparked worries of pandemic, with hundreds of thousands of people around the country potentially infected in a worst-case scenario.
In a rural hospital, a severe single case of Covid19 could stretch resources to the max. This is what we get for decades of cutting, tolerating free-riders, and hoping for the best. I guess there’s always the $69,000 medi-heli ride to an urban hospital, assuming they’re still taking patients and actually have test kits and protection.
“Compounding the problem is that some of the hospitals that most frequently treat the poorest, sickest, and oldest patients — in other words, those most susceptible to suffering from serious COVID-19 symptoms — are already in a precarious position.”
And probably where a lot of MAGA gear is worn.Sad to say.But you get what you vote for.
One case in point.
" Data continues to paint bleak picture for rural hospitals in Kentucky
Just heard Trump is set to visit CDC and announce windmills are the main cause of coronavirus spread. As he has demanded for years, they must be stopped now.
“How are you going to pay for that?”, Roll back the 1.7 trillion tax cut for the rich, cut or military budget in half, reduce our spy agency budget by half, end corporate welfare and subsidies, stop funding Israel, require corporations to pay taxes, end the trade wars, Reduce elected and appointed officials to minimum wage, stop funding Trump’s dumb ass wall and spend that money protecting American’s, stop caging children, stop funding private prisons, stop paying for Trumps golfing trips and his secret service (why do we have to pay to protect a billionaire or pay for his recreation?), Stop Melania’s tennis court renovation. There is literally a gazillion ways to pay for the things this nation needs but every one of them cut into the profit predation by the conservative ruling power elite.
Well Dem governor Steve Beshear gave them Kynect and they voted for Matt Bevin who ran on taking it away so stupid is as stupid does.
Maybe the hospitals can survive on thoughts and prayers
It’s actually heartbreaking. Lives are at stake. The truth is they were always at stake, but that fact won’t be easy to ignore anymore as this crisis continues to develop.
Meanwhile, this is what Democratic governors do. Three cheers for Cuomo. He is his father’s son.
This article focuses on rural areas, but I don’t imagine things are much better in urban areas. On a per-capita basis, we can expect substantially more cases in these areas which will stress hospitals, doctors, nurses, respiratory techs, etc. The problem lies in an ad-hoc healthcare system focused primarily on the delivery of profits to stakeholders than actual delivery of, you know, healthcare.
Bottom line, there’s no good place to get sick in the US if you’re uninsured or under-insured. And, hell, even if you’re properly insured, in many cases.
Trump is right of course. The biggest windmill maker is the Danish Vestas, and as we have all learned from our wonderful media experts, Denmark is a socialist country! Never, never shall we allow the Nordic Model of universal health care, longevity, paid university and maternity leave to encroach on our shores!
Folks don’t equate “The government is screwing us.” to Donnie’s policies of short changing that government. If they catch the virus they will probably assume treatment isn’t available to them because of whatever crap Fox feeds them. I hope they get a mild case and don’t end up losing the farm.
My mom is 92 and she is in regular contact with friends and family in nursing facilities. Those people are freaked right now. She’s really glad she decided to shelter in place.
Such a profound lack of empathy in a nation supposedly espousing Christian beliefs is difficult for me to wrap my head around sometimes. And I’m certainly old enough to know better.
