The House Oversight Committee filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking enforcement of subpoenas it issued to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Attorney General Bill Barr as part of the committee’s investigation into the census citizenship question.
Not a surprise, the Democrats now have a court decision that backs up their right to have subpoenas followed. I suspect we will see a lot more of this now…they were probably waiting for this decision before moving forward on several fronts. This one is critically important, we really need to get to the bottom of how the Census was almost abused for Republican power, and then lay that case out for new regulations that make sure it cannot be used for partisan ends in the future.
I doubt either Ross or Barr will ever provide substantial testimony before the House. It will be months before legal rulings that apply to them get resolved, and if they do show up, they won’t ‘recall’ much when questioned.
I’m not saying the House shouldn’t press forward to compel them to appear, but it’s memos, texts, and career staffers that will shed the most light.
Aren’t there disbarrment and impeachment procedures against Barr that could result from his behavior on these issues, and then later the findings on these issues? We need everything we can to sidetrack that MFer.
