MAGA hasn’t blinked over her corruption or The Turtles ties to Putin, but literally sleeping with the enemy might anger them? The way to get to McConnell is to highlight his choice in wives. The Christian Right most certainly doesn’t sanction those kinds of mixed race marriages even though they publicly act like they do.

Democrats want to highlight Trump, McConnell and Kavanaugh as the villains in each branch of government for the 2020 elections.
Pursuing Chao for possible illegal acts is not only the right thing to do, but also nicely fits into that strategy.

I’ve been urging something like this, if only for the crass political value of having something to hold over McConnell’s head, maybe pressuring him to get up off something Dems want. Which is not to say there isn’t lots of legitimate there there.
