House Members To Receive $10k To Beef Up Personal Home Security Systems

Does this mean that the congressman from Uvalde hires the local police department.

Hey, I was going to suggest a cheap handgun, which they can furnish with ammunition themselves.

And those members who are already armed and have been flaunting it get nothing.

If a Congresscritter loses re-election, does (s)he have to return it?

So is this like a $10000 signing bonus for getting elected to Congress?

Rethugliklans should be ineligible for the program, because this is their fault. IOW They built this.

I wonder how many Republicans will ‘say’ they rejected the assistance, but accept it anyways?

So the spouse and children of a serving member of Congress doesn’t deserve protection? House members usually do actually has a residency in their district, unlike senators. I know that mine have an instate residency in name only.

They’re private citizens. Surely the security provided by our community policing and other measures is sufficient.

If it wasn’t sufficient, Congress would of course appropriate enough funds to ensure that all private citizens are safe.

So would the compromise be loan them money, treat those loans like student loans? Sauce for goose should be the same as for the gander type of thing. Or it’s just a teachable moment.

Something like that.

Frankly, a lot of shit that we deal with in everyday life-- from TSA lines at the airport to good luck getting an IRS agent on the line let alone any other government agency-- is because members of congress and their fellow rich folks don’t have to deal with the little people lines.

I’m a firm believer that congressmembers should suffer with the same systems-- from security on down-- that they inflict on us or don’t give us at all.

In not entirely unrelated news, Trump is giving a “policy speech” right now about law and order and crime. I clicked and he was saying, “Of course, I don’t like LeBron James. I like Michael Jordan much better.” So I figure, yep, that’s a Trump policy speech, no doubt about it.

ETA he completely finished his original wall plan. Did you know that? Neither did I.

OMG it’s this litany of things where nobody could do anything good and he demanded the good things happen and people said no and then he threatened some dire reprisal and they immediately caved and did everything Trump wanted. This invariably happened every time.

Sure. The key thing is that they’re not around anywhere Trump might be. That’s his policy for the homeless—that they’re somewhere else.

So when they leave office, can we have the $10k back?
