Turley is a hack. I’d take his change in tone as his read of how this all looks in the legal world and politically. It’s a problem for Trump that his defense and method of acquittal are not legitimate.
My recollection is that he did. He said the alleged conduct was impeachable but the Democrats had not proved it. I’m pretty sure that is what he said. I was furious at the time and still am because so few people (and NO Republicans) comprehended the nuance he spoke. The GOP heard what they wanted to hear, period. And for them the damage is done.
WAPO Op-Ed pages are for people who don’t follow any person in lock-step, so his new “revelations” will not be heard by those who need to hear it.
Yep. At one point in the impeachment hearings, Adam Schiff really seemed to be methodically hitting all the elements of the bribery statute. Then he stopped, and we ended up with generic abuse of power instead. I wish they had made the case, because it’s a perfect fit for Trump’s actions.
According to Scaramucci, some very portly, probably not particularly flexible, former Senior White House Advisors and National Security Council members, do it all the time.
Sounds like Turley is having an Alec-Guiness-Bridge-on-the-River-Kwai-Oh-my-God-What-have-I-done kinda moment, eh?
Paucity of evidence my ass. There is enough evidence, including Donald Trump’s own fucking admissions, to convict beyond a reasonable doubt, were that the applicable standard.
Turley’s argument before the House was based on false premises. If the argument for impeachment was thin (which it wasn’t), it was only so due to Trump’s obstruction. It is perfectly fine to leave it to the Senate to conduct a trial with witnesses. That’s why Turley is a hack. No nuance. The 3rd impeachment in history. There are hardly any precedents. It’s as the founders wanted it. Our representatives, elected every 2 years, make the call, but the Senate conducts a trial.
Book I’m reading right now had similar sentiments in a recent chapter, quoting “reason is the devil’s whore” and observing that it’s our ability to reason that permits us to rationalize our way into justifying and committing our most evil acts.
Turley was OK appearing as an expert witness.
But, he doesn’t want to be thrown in and considered as part of the “defense” that Cipollone, Sekulow et. al. are regurgitating.
But he did get to be on television. Again.
Mr. Turley’s standards are far higher it seems than the constitution demands and, hence, his rather strange testimony to the house. Now to hear this commentary from him, I’m sorry, feels like much too little and far too late.
Hey @sniffit , completely OT, but why do we use these frat-boy terms douches and douchnozzles? To me, they have more than a whiff of misogyny or at least vagina phobia, both significant characteristics of the frat-boy type. Why not enemas and enemanozzles? I know, too many syllables. Perhaps using shits, shitbags and shitnozzles would be better, especially as their mode is extrudent rather than penetrative.
Morning musings inspired by the president and his lackeys.
Trump touched him, ergo he must die. Even his dog must die. O tempora, O mores.
Check must have bounced
Sounds like the Ghost of the Right Side of History visited him.
Well there’s that too.
The Putin Offense?
well-plowed by emotion.
Now now, we wouldn’t want to go too deep into vaginal metaphor lest we skirt the realms of misogyny, would we?
Just found out that Terry Jones died yesterday. Given that we seem to be living in the midst of a Monty Python sketch it seems appropriate.
And if you haven’t, check out his books on Chaucer. He punched the Knight right in the nose and put him in his rightful place.
