House Dems Rally Against DHS Funding Bill, But the Senate Is Where the Real Fight Happens

Dems ‘Overwhelmingly’ Opposed House Democrats are expected to vote against an upcoming appropriations bill funding the Department of Homeland Security because it doesn’t go far enough in restraining Immigration and Customs Enforcement after an agent killed a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis this month. Congressional appropriators released a big bipartisan package on Tuesday that would fund…

There is absolutely no reason for ICE to exist.

The supposed law enforcement role they play is to enforce xenophobia and racism as they are enshrined in our law with maximum prejudice. They do not serve any role that provides any public benefit to anyone.

Abolish ICE. We have the DEA and the ATF to investigate contraband. Stop going after immigrants who want to work, and start going after smugglers.

Bessent: “Denmark’s investment in U.S. Treasury bonds, like Denmark itself, is irrelevant.”

Irrelevant…like Denmark itself.

I’m still capable of being surprised at how completely and totally, and, it seems, enthusiastically, these people behave like raging assholes. In gratuitously mocking Denmark, and mocking Europe, along with lots of other decent and good people and things, Bessent et al are also mocking Karma, and I do hope it pays them the visit they have so richly earned.

My wife has worked for a Danish company for thirty years. She spends a great deal of time emailing and video conferencing with the Copenhagen side of the business.

This is all everyone is talking about.

I agree: the US government should not be funding what is effectively a party militia or secret police force. It appears unconstrained by its statutes or the constitution and very much acts like the KKK or some terror organization devoted to enforcing its party’s minority rule.

You know, some leaders lift up the people around them, make them strive to do and to be better. Trump, on the other hand, masterfully drags them all down to the gutter where he resides. He brings out the absolute worst in those surrounding him,

Bessent’s arrogance is matched by his ignorance.

In other words, prime CEO material for corporate America.

AND those employers who are hiring undocumented workers (presumably at lower wages than white home grown workers).

ICE has $10 billion remaining in its FE 2026 budget and a $75 billion bonus from the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Cutting its enforcement and removal operations by $115 million is less than 0.02%, not exactly a crippling blow to its illegal, unconstitutional behavior.

Imagine if immigration judges had that funding…

If we want to enforce labor laws, this is obviously the way to do it.

We shouldn’t want, however, to prevent anyone from working. The simple solution to undocumented workers is to document all workers. We should want all workers to protected by the same laws, especially the same wage laws, because this makes employment a healthy market, and healthy markets are a win/win situation for all involved.

The only reason we limit immigration is xenophobia. There’s no practical reason, no economic reason, and the fact that so many Americans think that there is an economic reason is part of our continual gas lighting of ourselves. We lie to ourselves. We convince ourselves that we are good people, when we demonstrably are not.

Regardless of all of that, you don’t have to agree with me on immigration to agree that ICE is violating the Constitution. The 14th amendment very clearly grants due process rights to persons, not citizens.

You forgot the scare quotes around the word “judges.” I say that there is no such thing as a judge that works for the executive branch.

Sorry, but they’ve now crossed MY line and are going to have a helluva time convincing me to ever support a Dem again. Jeffries the platitude faucet refused to whip. Schumer is unmitigated clownshow of ineffectual bumbling. And the rest of them, other than a small handful, just want to protect their position, power and wealth. Done.

I’m probably a little bit to the left of you in my political beliefs. Probably. I get mad at my side, but I don’t blame them for the actions of the other side. I know that it is easy to go after Democrats, but that’s fighting your friends because you’re scared of your enemies.

Neither do I. But enough about masked Nazi ICE Proud Boys in tactical cos-play terrorizing the country and shredding constitutional rights while violently accosting and murdering people to collect bounties and conduct an ethnic cleansing pogrom as part of Project 2025’s plan to replace our democracy with permanent ethno-theocratic KKKristofascist minority rule apartheid…what real Americans are concerned about is kitchen table issues…and by golly we can’t be seen as “anti law enforcement!!!”

Starting to see my complaint yet? We’ve been sold up the river by people who so believe that they must depend on the same oligarchy that backed/funded all of this for their electoral survival that they have decided collaboration while voicing some mewling complaints about it all is their best choice FOR THEMSELVES. They are linked at the navel with the oligarchy and the oligarchy’s chosen lobbyists and consultancy-class populace whisperers like Third Way. “Affordability” is pap…a soporific and distraction from the existential crisis we face and which must be solved before ANYTHING else can be solved.

Done with them. Everything from voting for the GENIUS Act nonsense to refusal to whip opposition to funding DHS/ICE to the smarmy, rote repetition of platitudes written by consultants that prove they consider us all to be fucking imbeciles who can be talked to like children to get us in line. Done. Had it. Fuck 'em. Even if given power they’ll fuck it all up and do nothing but promise a return to status quo ante as if that’s what we’re asking for. The only way this all resolves is the suffering getting so bad that the people take matters into their own hands and the object lessons start…and that may never happen, as proven by situations like Russia.

Remember, President Biden managed to deport more people than Trump has… with a lot less money… a lot less hoopla… and a lot less attention to texting.

Put down the phone. Release the Epstein files. We are concerned about white, male, child molesters.
