House Dems And Swing District GOPers May Sink Defense Spending Bill Over Anti-Abortion Amendment

The House passed an amendment Thursday afternoon, by a 221-213 vote, officially adding a provision to limit abortion access for military personnel to the National Defense Authorization Act — the legislation that authorizes the annual budget for the U.S. military, which congressional leaders aim to pass each year without drama.

After all, what is our military defending, if not our right to force women to give birth to their rapists’ babies, prevent people from living lives with their true gender identities, and ensure that white people never have to confront the legacy of the racist ideologies of their forebears?

the GOP once again choosing extremism, making abortion and women’s health care and freedom in this country the issue that they put over our national security

And most of those repub losers are choosing extremism for the purpose of attracting dollars into their bank accounts through campaign contributions. Nothing more than that.

Too bad McCarthy can’t make a deal with enough Democrats to strip the offensive amendments and pass the bill, even if it takes all Democratic votes to do it.

Of course, then the “Freedumb and Dumber” crowd would promptly call no confidence, and end his speakership. And it could take months before another speaker was elected, if ever, leaving the House unable to do business.

Win-win for the MAGA crowd!!

The real issue is that the majority of their own constituents have no idea of the shit they’re pulling.

The front page of Fox’s website right now (I looked so you wouldn’t have to):
Biggest story: Kamala Harris “raises eyebrows” with troubling remarks
Doctors reattach boy’s head (!)
Secret Service finds another banned substance in WH
Transgender cyclist wins race

Not a fucking WORD about them voting to deep six the defense bill.

MAGAts are real maggots, as in: a soft-bodied legless larva, especially that of a fly found in decaying matter, or, archaic: a whimsical fancy!!

And this will pass the Senate how?

Performance art by the GOP.

And the Democrats should attack the GOP at every instance for being anti-military!

adding a provision to limit abortion access for military personnel

Since Republicans can’t make laws respecting an establishment of religion, the next argument is “It’s what the fetus wants.”

Only politicians know that

Every other medical procedure is allowed for military personnel and their immediate family members. Someone pointed out that some are even flown out of bases to the mainland for laser surgery since it improves and obviously is a necessary procedure for them.

Because this is what GQPers clearly show they are! Deep down they seem to hate our military personnel, especially the women.

Well, yeah, but also avoiding primary opponents: the Republican business model no longer distinguishes between ideology and grift; they are integral (cf. The Long Con | Rick Perlstein )

Now you’re talkin’ like a real American Patriot - Tommy Tuberville style.

Well, everything else in the world is just hunky-dory, so why not take a little time out to indulge in some infantile performative anger-tainment?

As long as we understand that “women” could also mean “themselves” and “rapists” could mean “their commanding officer (and) or another service member”.

And thus the military becomes a state run breeding program.

Not even integral - they are one and the same.
Their ideology is whatever they can grift.

Oh, please. They are lying to you. When have the so called “moderate” GOP every done anything they said they were going to do?

Of course, that will never happen. Would be nice if the Dems take the gloves off, but if they haven’t yet, after all we’ve been through, they never will.

Nick LaLota’s predecessor was Lee Zeldin, of ‘the slow attacker penetrates the security detail and gets up on stage with a plastic keychain’ fame. In 2022, LaLota got 55.5% of the vote, which is about the same as Zeldin’s regular percentage from 2014-2020. In 2020, Zeldin outperformed Trump by 5 points.

NY 1st is not a swing district. It is reliably Republican.
